The weather is getting chillier, and it seems that my pooch Darby only wants to snuggle in her dog bed for cozy naps all day. With the holidays, friends and neighbors are dropping by more often, sometimes with minimal notice for me to tidy up my messy abode. So I’m getting Darby a nice new bed, one that will look good, even if I don’t have time to nudge her off her bed and throw it into the closet before company arrives.
Retropup (www.retropup.com) beds are the perfect home adornment. All components like the pillow insert, piping, and cover have been completely handcrafted, with stylish fabrics to suit any chic décor. Made by two pet moms, Mary Lou Sprano and Susan Dolbow, they came up with these beds after endless searching unsuccessfully for pet accessories that were both functional and chic.
“In the past, it meant running, grabbing and throwing dog toys and beds in a back room when company was on their way,” says co-creator, Susan Dolbow. “Our pieces are so beautiful you needn’t hide them, in fact you want to show them off,” says Mary Lou Sparano.
The Bowhouse Bolster Bed gives a nestled-in feeling. It has soft raised sides and a removable center cushion for ease of maintenance. It’s the ultimate in coziness for your deserving best pal. Available as a square or oval in 7 fabric choices from the cheerful mambo tomato red, to the sedate houndstooth blue.
My favorite design, and I hope Darby likes it too, is the Bowhouse Eames Bed. This dot pattern was designed by mid-20th century designers, Charles and Ray Eames for a 1947 textile competition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. This ultra chic bed comes in 2 combinations. One combination is small black dots set on a deep cinnamon red background with black leather piping and black faux suede bottom. The other is small cream colored dots set on a rich khaki background with brown leather piping and chocolate brown faux suede bottom. The added bonus is that these beds are machine-washable.
Let your pooch get a heavenly sleep, night or day.
