When I recently tore open a packet of Aura Cacia’s “Relax” Therapeutic Bath Salts the calming scent of natural lavender, passion flower and peppermint almost induced me into a deep, relaxing sleep on the spot — which could have been a disaster since I already had the bath water running. I did manage to get into the tub though, and got the full “Relax” treatment, soothing both my tired muscles and tired brain with the calming scent of natural oils and the tingling sensation of organic sea salts. Can it get any better than this, I wondered? Following up the bath with a slathering of Aura Cacia’s Sweet Almond Oil with Vitamin E I realized, oh yeah, it just got better. The delicate almond oil massages into the skin perfectly, leaving a beautiful glow but without a sticky, oily feeling. You can get dressed for work within minutes of applying this oil (without ruining your silk shirt, I may add), and your skin will stay soft and smooth for the rest of the day.

Aura Cacia is just one product line from parent company Frontier Natural Products Co-Op. Frontier is a past winner of the Socially Responsible Business Award – an award based on outstanding performance in six categories, including community involvement, education, health, employee empowerment, environmental awareness and responsible purchasing. Frontier maintains a variety of responsible programs in their everyday business – like using recycled paper in their printed materials – as well as leading the industry in developing sustainable cultivation methods for medicinal herbs that had their native populations threatened by wildcrafting. (That means, thanks to Frontier, generations from now women will still have the opportunity to nearly flood their bathrooms thanks to the trance-inducing scent of natural lavender.) Frontier also gives back 1% of the sales of their all-organic spice brand, Simply Organic, to the support of organic farming causes.

So while you bathe in organic, aromatic bath salts, your soul can also feel at peace because you have made a contribution to a greater good – not to say your own relaxation isn’t just as deserved!

You can purchase Aura Cacia at Westerly Natural Market (8th Ave @ 54th Street), Karrot (181st Street @ Cabrini Blvd.) and many other natural markets in New York City, as well as through their website. www.frontiercoop.com/brands/auracacia.html
