For years now, since I first learned of the possible dangers of flouride, I have been using Tom’s of Maine flouride-free toothpastes. Aside from peace of mind, Tom’s toothpastes also offer a choice of natural flavors that are interesting, to say the least – Cinnamint, Fennel, Gingermint, Anise and Apricot, along with the old fav’s Peppermint and Spearmint. The flouride-free products come in Whitening, Anti-Plaque, Tartar Control and even Homeopathic varieties. There is no unpleasant after-taste or strangely unpleasant “tooth glaze” from these toothpastes requiring a 10 minute wait before drinking your morning coffee or OJ, and the liquid gel varieties seep right into your toothbrush, rather than sitting on top of it, so you can effectively use less with each brushing. My personal favorite is the Cinnamint Anti-Plaque Plus Whitening Liquid Gel, though I know one of these days I will have to try the Natural Homepathic-Style Whitening Apricot. It just sounds so good!
Tom’s further commitment to dental health has brought them into a partnership this year with St. Joseph Health Services in Providence, RI and CVS/Pharmacy in an effort to confront a rapidly growing crisis in this country. Currently, there are over 120 million Americans without dental insurance. St. Joseph’s in Providence is just the first of eight programs across the country that Tom’s and CVS will be contributing to. Each program will receive more than $20,000 and be able to help at least 1,500 children receive dental care their families couldn’t otherwise afford. Tom’s of Maine’s overall contribution to this cause will top $300,000 this year. “Public health research is making it more clear every day that good oral health is very closely linked to a person’s overall health and thus Tom’s of Maine is committed to help improve access to dental health in the U.S.” said Tom’s of Maine founder and CEO Tom Chappell. “We’re inspired by the work done at St. Joseph Hospital and by CVS’s enthusiastic participation in the partnership.”
Note: Picking up your Tom’s of Maine products at CVS gets you TWO gold stars! You can also pick up Tom’s of Maine at Whole Foods and many other natural food markets and drug stores around the city.
