As the temperature goes down, a little warmth is always welcome. Candles are great gifts for anyone – a boss, a friend, or a family member, and can make for a more personalized gift than you may think. With a variety of “fragrance categories” to choose from, you can get really specific and spice up someone’s house for 30-60 hours of burn time!
Wintertime has a very distinct aroma in our memories. The smell of Christmas trees and cinnamon make me think of snowy nights at my grandparents house in Ohio. Jo Malone’s limited edition Pine and Eucalyptus Home Candle works with sweet pine and smooth eucalyptus to fill your home with that winter-wonderland feeling sans the snow. www.jomalone.com
The Noel Votive Candle Set from Annick Goutal is perfect for gift giving. The five votives come with a pretty butterfly closure and combine citrus fruits and Siberian pine for a soft holiday fragrance. Available at Neiman Marcus.
For a little fun with your candles pick up Archipelago Botanical’s Mistletoe Chinese-To-Go-Candle. A blend of clementine, nutmeg, and spruce, these candles come full-sized or as votives in the cutest boxes complete with jingle bells. www.amazon.com.
For a more “herbal” take on holiday candles, check out Aveda’s Atmosphere Plant Pure-Fume Aroma Candle with its combination of mint, herbs, and pine. You can also use the sturdy bamboo leaf box later to store flower seeds or tea bags. www.aveda.com
Farther down on the spice rack, you can find Cinnamon Bark, a new limited edition candle from Henri Bendel Home. Not too strong of a cinnamon, it smells yummy and is joined by White Plum and Winter Woods for this holiday season. 1-800-HBENDEL
For a complex candle ranging from fresh to spicy all at once, look for Shangri-La from Nars. Rose, Sage, Clove, Nutmeg, Basil, Jasmine, and Black Tea all make appearances in this crimson candle that looks just like Christmas. www.narscosmetics.com
Origins always has something yummy for the body and this year they have teamed up with famed New York artisan Lisa Jenks for their poured candle collection. Peace of Mind and Ginger are each showcased and the glass holders that Lisa designed make things more interesting as your candle burns. www.origins.com
If you’ve got a cold and need some clearing out in the nasal capacity, JK Soul Salts has the candles for you. Their All Natural Rosemary Soy Candle comes with a screw on lid to keep the fragrance fresh – and it does the trick! www.jksoulsalts.com
Coffee lovers will adore the Espresso Cup and Scented Votive Candle Set from Cucina Dolce. Two white espresso cups house a Fresh Cream Votive and an Espresso Votive that are delicious to burn alone or together. The cups are great for other things when the candles are gone! www.us.fruits-passion.com.
For a sweet treat, check out the Maple Sugar Candle from Sweet Grass Farm. The caramelized maple candle smells just like the little candies that you loved as a kid… or that you loved last week. www.sweetgrassonline.com
This is the first candle you could confidently give to a couple and know they would have a good time with it. Suntouched Candles by Earthly Body not only smell good, but once they’re lit and “melty” you can use them as a massage oil or moisturizer for the body. I know! Crazy! But so much fun! It isn’t too hot, as it only heats to about three degrees above body temperature, comes with a little spoon, is made with Hemp Oil, Vitamin E, and feels amazing. Dreamsicle is my favorite. www.earthlybody.com
Can’t decide what to get? You can’t go wrong with the Mini Poured Home Fragrance Candle Collection from Crabtree and Evelyn. It holds Moroccan Spice, Warm Evergreen, Vanilla Truffle, and Winter Apple candles in fun colors. www.crabtreeandevelyn.com
So brighten someone’s holiday with a festive candle and share in the happiness of the season.
