Skin Care

By Jessa Moore

I am someone who likes all the work taken out of my beauty routine. It just feels overwhelming sometimes to figure out how to take care of my skin. Hence, I am obsessed with systems; products formulated to work together and give the most benefit. It takes the guesswork out of what skin needs. I worry about my eventual wrinkles while dealing with sensitive skin and the occasional stress breakout. This can make it hard for me to make choices with mix and match items from different product lines. Then there are the potential pitfalls of sensitive skin. Since I have to deal with both combination and sensitive skin, it can be daunting to figure out what I can and cannot tolerate.

One of my new obsessions is allergen free VMV Hypoallergenics. VMV allows problem skin to now use ingredients that were previously intolerable to fragile skin. I like the Illuminants+ line because of acne marks and freckles that had to be left untreated because I just could not bear the feeling of any creams on my face. My skin would itch and burn. This is a line created by a dermapathologist and I trust it. It makes my skin glow-y without feeling itchy. After following the instructions carefully, I’m happy to report that my red marks are fading and so is my self-consciousness.

I’ve been a loyal fan of Lierac Paris for some time. Based on botanicals, they seem to have a remedy for all your beauty woes. Recently, I tried their Mat-Chromo line, which is a system for oily/combination skin. Although it is not strictly for sensitive skin, I have found that my complexion takes to the botanicals in this line quite nicely. For example, while I cannot always tolerate salicylic acid, the cucumber extract in the Mat-Chromo Skin Priming Toning Lotion balances it for me in the end. I find that this is a good line for gentle breakout control. It takes down shine and has anti-aging ingredients, while fighting breakouts.

I am going away for a week tomorrow and want to put only one thing in my cosmetic kit to take care of my skin. Systems are fabulous for when you are not traveling and you are able to carry everything with you. But I found a system in a bottle. All I need for my trip is Dermelect Cosmeceuticals Detoxifying Oxygen (O2) Facial Commission. This foaming cleanser morphs into an oxygenating mask that hydrates, purifies, unclogs pores, and removes makeup. If left on, it doubles as an oxygenating mask. My skin feels soft and supple and like I just came out of the spa. It fits neatly into my bag and has a no-spill bottle. It’s become my new travel companion!
