This winter has not been kind to the Northeast. As I type, we are in the middle of yet more snow even though the spring equinox has arrived. The endless string of below-30-degree days was tough on my lips and they have been left dry, flaky, and chapped. Eeewww…I had to do something to get them back to their soft, plump and kissable condition. I tried quite a few lip treatments and happily these brought my pout back to perfection and ready for spring.
Bliss Pout’-o-Matic Spa-Powered Lip Perfecting System
This all-in-one kit includes Bliss Fabulips’ Sugar Lip Scrub and…wait for it… the ‘Pout’-0-Matic Lip Exfoliating Tool. It’s like a Sonicare or Clarisonic for your lips. The folks at Bliss also thought my lip experience wouldn’t be complete without their Fabulips Softening Lip Balm as well. I loved the Lip Scrub and Lip Balm. The balm was not hard and waxy, and its mix of shea butter, jojoba and grape seed oils kept my lips nice and soft even during a gym session and a bunch of errands. My only suggestion would be for them to add a sunscreen to have it do double duty. The scrub smelled like orange zest and tasted delicious. More importantly, it got rid of the yucky dead skin, leaving my lips smooth and ready for an application of my favorite red lipstick.
Fresh Sugar Lip Polish, Sugar Lip Serum Advanced Therapy, and Sugar Lip Treatment with SPF 15
I have always loved products by Fresh, and these are no exception. The Sugar Lip Treatment has SPF (yay!) and its combination of sugar (a natural humectant), oils, and grape seed polyphenols keeps lips smooth and moist. It can be worn under any lipstick, and really helps the color to last. That said, the Lip Treatment does come in a variety of tinted colors for moisture and color in one product.
The Sugar Lip Polish smells like the brown sugar it contains to help lips retain moisture. It also contains jojoba oil and shea butter to nourish the skin. The Sugar Lip Serum Advanced Therapy is like an anti-aging cream for your lips. It contains acmella flower extract to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, Kigelia Africana fruit extract to improve elasticity, and sugar to help keep lips moist. I have been using the serum both in the morning and at night for almost a week, and my lips definitely seem fuller, softer, and more youthful. Now that’s what I call sweet!
Lipstick Queen Queen Bee Lip Treatment
This stuff is great. Its honey scent reminds me of a bee hive. Lipstick Queen’s Queen Bee Lip Treatment gives the lips a faint bronze shimmer that can either stand alone or be layered with another color. It protects lips with Royal Jelly (hence the name), chamomile, and sunflower extract. I wore it on several social occasions and it stood up to conversation, food, and (several) glasses of wine. Again, though, I wish it had SPF. Beauty hackers’ tip: This could pull a beauty McGuyver as a highlighter/luminizer for cheekbones.
BiteBeauty Agave Lip Mask
Other beauty editors always rave about BiteBeauty lip products, and now I know why. The organic agave nectar, jojoba oil, and transresveratrol, an antioxidant, in the Agave Lip Mask really protected my lips and kept them moist, even as I headed into a snow drift to dig out my car. And the product now comes in two new tints, Smashed (a berry) and Champagne (a shimmery nude). But alas, the lip mask also offers no sun protection, so it’s perfect for night, or with an SPF layered underneath for day.
Welcome spring and welcome soft, smooth, kissable, plump lips.
