Skin Care

Breast Cancer is the second leading cause of death in women, and in 2009 over 190,000 American women will be diagnosed with the disease. Do your part to help prevent and help find a cure. Do self exams, get regular check-ups from your doctor, donate to BCA charities, and buy products from companies that donate proceeds to the cause.

This month’s Skinovations column is dedicated to the companies who are helping he cause by donating a portion of their profits from their products.

Already having the reputation as one of the best cleansing gizmos in the universe, The Clarisonic Sonic Cleanser is being offered in a limited edition with an adorable retro graphic design. In this year’s Fashion Week, Clarisonic sponsored a runway show featuring designer pink dresses worn by Breast Cancer survivors. Additionally, Clarisonic has been donating money for breast cancer screening and research and to date has donated over $500,000. 50% of the profits of this limited edition Clarisonic Sonic Cleanser will go to the New York chapter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

For your skin, the Clarisonic sonic micro-massage will clean your skin and unclog your pores like nothing else can! With skin as clean as this, you’ll absorb serums and moisturizers and treatments products even better. The unit gets recharged in an electrical holder, but when out of the holder, it’s waterproof and can be used safely in the tub or at the sink. The kit comes with an extra brush, 3 cleansers and skin polish, and you can use your favorite brand once these are used up.

They certainly know about stress in Iceland. With their recent economic collapse, hours of winter darkness and…ahem…chilly weather, they know how stress can take its toll on the skin. From Skyn Iceland comes the Detox Kit for Stressed Skin. The four piece travel kit (TSA friendly, so take it aboard your flight) comes with Glacial Facial Wash, Arctic Face Mist, Quenching Daily Lotion and Oxygen Infusion Night Cream. The products are all natural – even vegetarian – and include bioactive ingredients which are harvested from Iceland’s pure water and other elements. Skyn Iceland has generously donated money to the American Cancer Society for the last three years and this year, a donation of $5.00 for every kit sold in October will be donated to Gilda’s Club for the fight against breast cancer.

Amazingly Gentle Scrub from Therapy Systems is one of the mildest exfoliating cleansers ever and can be used on even the most sensitive skin. Easy to use in an unbreakable pump bottle, I not only use it on my face, but keep it by the tub and use it on my neck, décolletage and arms. The formula consists of aloe vera gel, peppermint and grapefruit oils, ginseng and green tea extracts and jojoba beads for exfoliation. Therapy Systems donates 10% of gross annual profits of the scrub to The National Breast Cancer Coalition, and, for the month of October, you’ll receive a free 2oz travel size with purchase of the regular size bottle. An offer you can’t refuse!

Since August and through October, DermaQuest is lending a helping hand to the cause by donating a portion of each sale of their Glycolic Hand and Body Cream to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports research projects around the world. The hand and body cream, one of my personal faves, has alpha hydroxy acids, hyaluronic acid, and shea butter to moisturize and keep skin looking younger.

This four piece Essential Beauty Secrets kit in hot, hot pink contains a 5 Step Breast Check guide along with four of the best Elemis.Pro-Collagen products, Lifting Treatment for Neck and Bust, Marine Cream, Oxygenating Night Cream and a Papaya Enzyme Peel.
