Skin Care

By Charu Suri

Anti-aging is all the rage right now (when hasn’t it been the rage? Hello…Fountain of Youth!). People are trying to turn back the hands of time, reverse aging, look twenty when they’re forty, and dying their gray hair away. The skin, the largest organ of the body, is also the organ that is most exposed to pollutants in the air, the vagaries of the weather, and the sheer stress of the day. No wonder it needs help!

So we asked: “What are some of the key terms that are vogue?”

Today terms like idebenone, natural enzymes, hyaluronic acid, pro-xylane, “green” molecules and anti-aging come rolling off the tongues of ‘make me look 10 years younger’ women everywhere. To put that vocab to good use, here are some of the products that will help soften creases, smooth lines, fade spots…and keep them guessing when it comes to your age.

Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Concentrate: Super effective at combating the effects of daily wear and tear on the skin, this “little brown bottle” reactivates the skin’s natural enzyme activity, and should be used on damaged, irritated or stressed skin. When I gave it a go, the product made my skin appear much less irritated and I felt that my skin was completely hydrated throughout the day. Rich in antioxidants, the concentrate builds a supply of anti-oxidants for protection against the damage done by free radicals and the environment. Available at Estee Lauder counters nationwide and at www.esteelauder.com

Lancome Absolue Premium x Line: Although formulated specially for those cuties 50 and over, this line changed the texture of my skin visibly and (yes, actually) overnight. The chief ingredient of this new line, Pro-Xylane, is extracted from the sugar derivative that is found typically in young, healthy skin. What Pro-Xylane does is to boost the moisture level of the extracellular matrix, which has recently been identified as the critical component that defines skin architecture and function by providing firmness and tonicity.

This is also Lancome’s first “green” molecule – which is a big deal because it was developed using renewable raw materials. This opens the doors for several potential discoveries without the fear of damaging the environment.

What’s new and improved about the Absolue Premium line? It is a “supercharged” version of the original Absolue line, containing wild yam, soy, sea algae, and barley. For more information, visit www.lancome-usa.com

Dr. Brandt’s “Laser A-Peel” 3 Step Peeling System: Using Qusome patented delivery system, this three step peeling system is able to turn back the tide in just one application. First, you prep your skin with a toner-like liquid that leaves it tingling and taut. Then you apply the peeling solution, which contains Qusomes and antioxidants that sweep the skin of dead skin cells. The third step? Soothe and stabilize, baby!

At the end of the first treatment, my skin felt taut but not dry or irritated and remarkably clear; my pores were smaller, and the skin felt twice as soft. Worth every penny of the $100. For more information, visit www.drbrandtskincare.com
