Skin Care

From the time you are born your skin starts to age. Sobering, mais non? Here’s the skinny: your skin is your largest organ. It protects you from the onslaught of the outer world and keeps your inner temple sanctified by throwing off toxins. So why would you treat your skin with anything that does not meet the highest standards???

Until recently, skincare products could claim that they were organic without meeting the same standards as USDA certified organic food. Now Whole Foods has changed all that by committing to carrying only organic skincare products that meet the NSF/ANSI 305 Standard. In English, that means that when you buy organic skincare products at Whole Foods, you are guaranteed to get products that contain a minimum of 70% organic content and you are not getting known carcinogens or synthetics derived from petrochemicals. You are smart enough to deduce the benefits.

Now that all Avalon Organics products are compliant with these standards, I say yeah! Since I was not born yesterday, my skin has been aging long enough to thirst for anything with a little lift. The Avalon Organics Essential Lift collection includes Smoothing Cleanser, Firming Moisturizer SPF 15, Restructuring Night Crème and Contouring Eye Crème. This simple, safe and effective daily regimen is free of parabens, nasty preservatives, synthetic colors or fragrances and chemicals I cannot pronounce.

The collection contains oceanic minerals to help hydrate and nourish. The cleanser detoxifies and gently exfoliates. The moisturizer hydrates and also protects from skin damage– and as you may know, I always applaud products that do double duty. The night crème and eye crème firm things up and fight visible signs of aging and, like everything in the collection, are reasonably priced so you can afford to buy organic food too. I’m just sayin’.

Available: Whole Foods Markets and at

This year, resolve to protect and nourish the skin you’re in. Look for products, like those from Avalon Organics, that feature the NSF logo for a guarantee that you are getting organic ingredients.
