Spa

By Susan Romero

It is easy to see why celebrity facialist, Joanna Vargas, is so popular with the A-list crowd. She is personable, and down to earth, as well as an ultimate expert in skin care. I thoroughly enjoyed my facial and the time we spent talking. It was more like I stopped in to visit a friend and she gave me a fantastic facial. Even the waiting area looks more like a living room than a spa.

I had the Champagne and Roses Facial that was packed with antioxidants and powerful anti-aging ingredients. It also combines technology with natural skin care that Vargas is known for. This facial starts with a Diamond Peel, which is a deep exfoliation with a diamond tipped wand. Next is a Sweet Red Rose Petals and Honey Mask. It has an incredible scent of roses and helps increase circulation. After the mask, Vargas performed mild extractions and applied a Champagne Face Mask with antioxidants, polyphenols and honey. Additional hydration came from the Rejuvenating Serum, with all natural ingredients, including Rose hips, Argan, Neroli and Jojoba Seed Oils. It is designed to be an anti-aging moisturizer that gives you a youthful glow. Finally, Vargas used an oxygen spray all over my face, and finished with a moisturizer. “Your skin is glowing,” Vargas said, smiling. When I looked in the mirror my skin was renewed and younger looking. It also felt incredibly smooth. I would love to have Vargas care for my skin all the time.

Vargas is a staunch proponent of natural skin care, and is very much against fillers and face-lifts. Her line of skincare products is all-natural and really hydrates the skin. I especially love the Rejuvenating Serum. Vargas recommends avoiding the sun and using microcurrent and LED Light Therapy facials, which she performs, to reduce and prevent wrinkles. She recounted a story of how she was able to begin to reverse wrinkles and sun damage on one client through this method, over a six- month period of weekly treatments. It takes money and work, but it is possible to treat wrinkles naturally.

Vargas said that she was heading to Los Angeles for the Oscars, and I realized that the same hands that gave me a facial would be touching celebrities walking the red carpet. When I left her salon I truly felt ready for my close-up. Where are the paparazzi when you want them?
