Renew Day Spa
Tucked away in a small residential building on the Upper East Side, The Renew Spa is a charming little hidden retreat owned by licensed aesthetician Carmel O’Neill, who dedicates herself to anti-aging and wellness treatments. I experienced a Manual Lymphatic Drainage, aka MLD, facial by expert Ellen Greene, which was one of the most relaxing and gentle experiences I’ve ever had in a spa, or anywhere for that matter.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage was developed in France in the 1930’s by Dr. Emil Vodder and is calm and holistic technique of very specific light rhythmical massaging that improves lymphatic system function and relieves chronic symptoms such as sinus congestion and fluid retention as well as swelling in other parts of the body. Ellen concentrated on my face and her touch was ever so gentle as she worked on my entire face, neck and ears. I even dozed off for a few minutes. After an hour of this heavenly treatment my eyes looked brighter and my skin looked fresher and I had an overall feeling of positive energy flowing through me. Since I didn’t have any major swelling problems to begin with, I didn’t expect major physical changes. However, I could easily see how this technique could reduce bags under the eyes, swelling on arms or legs, and general fluid retention.
The Renew Day Spa also offers other wonderful treatments, such as cellulite reduction, massages, body wraps, facials, peels and hand and foot treatments. Additionally, I highly recommend the Renew Anti-Oxidant Tightening Gel and the Ultra Serum Moisturizer sold exclusively at the spa.
