I had thought the only people who visited the Berkshires were those who owned summer homes there and frequented Tanglewood, or were those who visited that other famous Lenox, Massachusetts spa. That is, until I learned about Cranwell. This best kept New England secret is the perfect destination for just about any couple or group of friends looking for some classic fun and relaxation.
In just under three hours, two of my best friends and I arrived at Cranwell Resort, where we were greeted by the warm and welcoming staff. After putting our bags down in our tasteful, traditionally decorated room, we called for a shuttle to take us to Sloane’s Tavern, the pub on premises for some much needed comfort food and cocktails (which, by the way, you won’t find at other area resort spas). In keeping with any spa resort’s code of ethics, each Cranwell dining locale mentions a healthy spa-meal option on its menu, but my friends and I couldn’t help but indulge in the delicious cuisine that featured area favorites like lobster bisque and New England clam chowder. During the rest of our stay, we enjoyed lunch at a local eatery in one of the charming towns surrounding Lenox, a formal dinner in Cranwell’s Wyndhurst and Music Room restaurant and made-to-order omelets during a decadent Sunday brunch in their historic Gilded Age Mansion.
Cranwell captures the beauty of virtually any season of the year and thanks to an indoor passageway, you could literally walk to the spa/indoor pool area in your robe, regardless of what the weather is doing outside. After working off the previous night’s indulgences in Cranwell’s state of the art gym, my friends and I congregated in the chic and well-designed spa lounge and awaited our treatments. I received the new Carita Lagoon Hydration facial from master esthetician, Amy. Carita facials are based on a unique, and highly effective method involving three carefully targeted rituals: cleansing, correcting and protecting/vitalizing. For 80 glorious minutes, my neck, shoulders, feet and hands were expertly massaged while my face was cleansed, purified and left radiant and glowing. Not only did I feel unbelievably relaxed after this facial, but everyone who saw me in the weeks, yes weeks, following, remarked that my skin looked particularly radiant and flawless (and nobody ever says that about my skin!). I don’t know whether it was the use of Carita’s signature Rénovateur or the seaweed and noni extracts found in the lagoon-water-based Carita products, but I’ve seriously never had a facial give me such instantaneous and long-lasting effects.
