Continuing with our series on waterfront destination weddings near NYC, I ventured out to the island of hedgerows, boat slips and Billy Joel. If you don’t have a beachfront home on ‘the fork,’ this report will help you make all wedding arrangements in one location in the coveted paradise on Long Island at the Montauk Yacht Club.
This resort is a three-hour trip from Manhattan on the south fork of the island. Transportation choices include: limousine service, LIRR, The Hampton Jitney or private boat — yes, the wedding attendees can actually sail directly into the resort’s marina.
Originally built in 1928 by Carl Fisher (He turned Miami from a sleepy town into a thriving resort city), the club began with a Tudor manor and twenty guest suites, whose members had last names like Vanderbilt, Astor, Wanamaker and Doubleday. The infamous lighthouse that guided them to shore stands in replication as a beacon of history and welcomes guests to today’s sprawling resort with 107 luxury guest rooms, suites and modern facilities.
The nautical theme floats from the lobby into the guest rooms — navy blue carpeting and whitewashed, paneled walls are accented with blue and white striped wallpaper in the bath; the color scheme is reflected in the bedding and window treatments.
Each room has a wine cooler and flat screen TV; the private decks have weathered, Adirondack chairs overlooking the shore and a captivating vista.
The Villas (once a private compound of Florence Ziegfeld) are separate from the main building and nestled on the north end of the property. Spacious rooms with king and queen-sized beds and faux fireplaces are flanked by large windows facing out onto the grand lawn and marina.
You can hold a beachfront ceremony, however due to the unpredictable weather patterns in Montauk, the wedding could be moved inside if need be on the day of the event. The Farmhouse Ballroom is an airy and bright room facing the beach with rustic light fixtures, a large fireplace and beamed cathedral ceiling. The décor can be arranged with several vendors for any theme or vision that a bride and groom envision — Amanda Hollenbach will help create the perfect ceremony and banquet and coordinate everything including the day’s schedule. The Farmhouse holds up to 160 people.
For larger wedding parties, the Grand Lawn is a beautiful outdoor space surrounded by manicured landscaping and views of the beach and marina. Servers line the dock with trays of champagne or specialty cocktails to welcome all guests. This will be a tented affair with a capacity that exceeds 1000 guests. There are more options depending on the size of the guest list, from an intimate group to a large, grand affair.

Activities & Special Options
The resort is chock-full of activities and amenities including two outdoor and one indoor swimming pools, fitness center, tennis courts, beach volley ball, sports and games, Spa MYC, private yacht cruises and more.
To end the wedding celebration, Island Beach is the perfect location for a late-night after-party bonfire — it’s just a few sandy steps away from the Farmhouse Ballroom. The Wedding Coordinator can also arrange for shuttle service to and from the downtown area for those who want to explore the town.
This venue handles everything from the rehearsal dinner through Sunday brunch.
