Travel

By Andrea Toochin

If there’s one thing I hate more than cleaning, it’s packing. But, even before I’ve made a list of necessary documents and clothes, I’ve packed my toilet kit. That should come as no surprise since I’m a product junkie, faithfully bringing you the dirt on the latest goods. But not everyone takes pride in stocking their toilet kit with the right serum, miniature size hair products, and individually packaged masks. Hence, my selections of the best new travel kits.

The Adventurer
Terranova is yet another inventive independent Bay Area skincare company boasting a range of products with organic ingredients. They offer a surprisingly large array of products arranged by themes. Though I’m intrigued by the Japanese-inspired Sakura, the Red Tea, and the Ginger lines, it was the Organic Oasis Essentials Spa Tote that lured me. Six miniature bottles come packaged in the moss green mesh mini-tote. The two items that sparked my interest are Green Coffee and Yerba Maté Stimulating Body Scrub and the Tiare Flower and White Tea Rejuvenating Body Lotion. The combination of mate and coffee make for an excellent body scrub because of their ability to fight cellulite. The tiare flower extract and coconut oil are the main moisturizing ingredients in the silky lotion, but the 20 percent concentration of shea butter in the Therapeutic Miracle Cream is the best solution for dry skin.

The Art Enthusiast
When I found out BlueQ is based in a small town in Massachusetts, I was so proud I had to give praise to their artistic designs. But in all honesty, I really just couldn’t resist the Hot & Flashy Kit. The minute I saw it, I knew it was worth adding another pound to my already stuffed leather messenger bag.

The kit contains pear lip balm with SPF 18; the vitamin E enriched shower gel; the lemongrass hand and body cream, with aloe extract and shea butter; and my favorite, the rectangular pill case covered in the same Art Deco motif that decorates the other items.

Whether you’re traveling to the jungle with a large backpack or to a luxurious Caribbean hotel in a Vuitton duffle, it’s always helpful to have your own cleaning products. The Laundress sells a kit that comes with a laundry bag and four products that keep wrinkles out and rid your rags of stains, whatever they may be. Crease Release removes wrinkles while the Classic Scent freshens clothes with the musk and woodsy notes. The Stain Solution can be used to pre-treat clothes before you clean them with the Delicate Wash. If you’re a bit anal, rely on the Fabric Fresh to rid bed sheets of smells and bacteria throughout long stays.

If you rely on a minimum of four hair products daily, try the Curlisto Travel Kit from Christo Fifth Avenue, or Aveda’s Love To Go kit, a travel set with shampoo, conditioner, lip balm, hand cream, and foot cream.
