Conveniently located footsteps away from Turning Stone Casino Resort, Skana, provides the perfect weekend getaway for you and your sweetheart this Valentine’s Day. With just a few hours in the car or a quick and inexpensive flight into the Syracuse airport you’ve got relaxation, entertainment and the chance to get rich quick all in one place.
Skana Spa is a brand new facility housed in the all-suite Lodge at Turning Stone, a hotel catering exclusively to an upscale clientele. Developed by the same people behind Canyon Ranch, Skana is an impressive blend of modern and traditional décor with Native American influences. The spa is designed with earthy tones, scents and textures for a total sensory experience. As you glide your hand along a wall laid with stones, snuggle up by the fire or unwind in a lounge chair in the herbal garden, you feel as if you’re one with nature.
Skana, which means peace, offers the ultimate in modern treatments while incorporating Oneida Native American healing principles and contemporary product lines. The spa is equipped with a Jacuzzi and mineral pool, a sauna and steam room, rain showers, a hair and nail salon, a health food café, a beauty product shop, a VIP suite perfect for the bride and groom, as well as 12 treatment rooms. I opted for the Lavender Treatment, which consisted of 80 minutes of pure relaxation as I was exfoliated and massaged twice over with lavender scented creams and scrubs as well as hot stones.
The Lodge at Turning Stone offers the intimacy of a boutique hotel with contemporary, Feng Shui design elements that will have you itching to remodel your bathroom. Although all two-room suites are a welcome haven away from typical Manhattan apartments, the 3,500 square foot VIP suite is a sight to behold. If you don’t reserve it for yourself (not to mention at least four more guests), it is sure to be utilized by the participants of the PGA tour, which is being held at Turning Stone this year. Speaking of golf, the resort provides the ideal destination for both men and women and throughout all seasons of the year. Try your hand at poker or blackjack at the casino, see a concert, swim laps in the beautiful indoor pool, stay in shape at the state of the art gym, or enjoy delicious cuisine at Wildflower – the onsite gourmet restaurant – just be sure to bring your favorite bottle of wine (the resort has not yet attained a liquor license).
So, before you start groaning about trekking off to Vegas with your honey – or even a group of single friends – only to feel overwhelmed by the crowds and glitz, why not arrange an impromptu weekend escape to Skana Spa at Turning Stone? The service, décor, treatments and amenities are on par with those of high-end resort spas, while the convenient location makes spending a weekend there doable on all budgets (well, depending on your gambling habits, that is).
