Wine & Spirits

By Derek S. Gerard

Are you looking for a refreshing alternative to beer but normally find ciders too sweet? Do you really just like beer and are sick of fooling yourself? Try Doc’s Dry-Hopped Hard Apple Cider, it’s dry and hoppy like beer and it tastes like no cider you’ve probably ever tried before.

Doc’s ciders are produced at the beautiful Warwick Valley Winery and Distillery, which I refer to as a one-stop shopping experience. They are longtime purveyors of delicious ciders (they have a legion of them), and they’ve generally stuck with a bit of a sweeter brew, as is somewhat common with American ciders.

This is a cider made with dry hops like those found in beer. This makes it dry and refreshing with a subtle apple flavor – a perfect balance of flavors betwixt apple and hops. Some people I know who have tried it have actually mistaken it for an IPA.

Doc’s only sells their ciders in “bombers,” which is slightly decadent but really adds to the fun. The ciders can be found for about under $10 and are gluten free. Try it on ice for the ultimate in summer refreshment.

Be sure to check out their other ciders, including a Hard Pear Cider, a Hard Pumpkin Cider, and a Framboise Raspberry Apple Cider at: http://wvwinery.com/cider/
