Beauty Nut Is All the Rage, and Dermatologist Approved!

BeautyNewsNYC got the deets on board-certified dermatologist Lian Mack’s background, skin and hair advice, and her opinion on natural skincare company, Beauty Nut.

Tell us about yourself:

My name is Lian Mack. I am a mom to 2 girls and a board-certified dermatologist practicing in New York City. I live and breathe skincare every day. Not only am I passionate about what is applied to or used on the skin, but overall wellness. Taking care of our skin truly begins with how we treat our bodies. Exercise also plays an extremely important role in our overall wellness. Although life gets busy with work and two kids, I try my best to find 30 to 40 minutes to exercise 3 times a week. I believe if you take care of your body, it will definitely take care of you!

Tell us about your experience with Beauty Nut:

I was recently introduced to a new product line called Beauty Nut – a natural skincare company that specializes in organic Argan oil products sourced from Morocco. What first attracted me to Beauty Nut was its goal to build a global brand promising to deliver quality organic products that would allow women to embrace their beauty. Their hero products are made from 100% organic Argan oil and Prickly Pear Seed Oil. The products are cruelty-free, paraben-free, GOAT free and 100% organic, non-GMO. This brand is also socially conscious, purchasing directly from local Moroccan women’s cooperatives and donating 10% of net profits back to the community. The company’s ethos made it stand out to me as a thoughtful beauty brand with a mission to give back.

What are the benefits of Argan oil?

Argan oil is made using the seeds of the Moroccan Argan tree. The oil is packed with Vitamin E – a naturally occurring antioxidant that helps to keep skin and hair hydrated. It also protects the hair from UV radiation, while minimizing frizz and breakage.

Do you have any tips for maintaining healthy skin and hair?

Healthy skin – My motto is, “During the day you protect, at night you repair.” Protection involves using antioxidants coupled with sunscreen during the day. Repair requires use of a Vitamin A derivative like a retinoid or retinol at night coupled with a hydrating moisturizer.

Hair – Always look for a sulfate-free shampoo. Shampoos containing sulfates strip the hair of its natural moisture. Minimize the amount of heat applied to the hair. Too much heat can lead to damage including breakage and split ends. When using heat, use a heat protectant to serve as a barrier between the hot tool and your tresses.

What is something you wish you knew about skincare and haircare when you were younger that you know now?

Growing up, I did not recognize the importance of sun protection and avoidance. As a dermatologist, I hate to admit that I used to tan in tanning beds to obtain a “glow.” So embarrassing! The sun not only ages you, but more importantly, puts you at risk for skin cancers. When going outside, my kids never leave without sunscreen or UV protective clothing.

Are there any Beauty Nut products you’d like to spotlight?

Both of my daughters have curly hair, and I immediately reached for Beauty Nut’s original 100% Pure Argan Oil as a clean option to hydrate their curls. I personally love pairing the Prickly Pear Seed Oil at night with my retinoid. It is lightweight and easily absorbed. During the day, I use it under my sunscreen as well. The high concentration of Vitamin E makes it a powerful antioxidant protecting my skin from the free radicals in the environment.
