Hear His Music? See His Wardrobe!

From Rock to Funk, Country to Classics, turn up the volume on this year’s must-have summer fashion. I picked several garments and accessory with a groove, pop and slide and nod towards men’s favorite music styles. Here is what’s in his play list and possibly on his back…

Ska is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s and was the precursor to rocksteady and reggae. It combines elements of Caribbean mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues.

Imagine hitting the beach bar or pool in these swim trunks. I chose them for their breathable cut and the pattern of dragonflies. The style is for men of all ages even those who just occupy a stool with a beer in hand or the ones dancing in the sand. Bartaco is in partnership with clothier, Fair Harbor.

Developed in the United States by inner-city African Americans and Caribbean Americans in the Bronx borough of New York City in the 1970s, Hip Hop has spread from the inner city to the coast and around the globe.

For the man on the street and strutting his thing — always casual with an exception or two like, dah, a wedding — check out the clothing line by SHEIN. I am confident that you will get him to make a purchase 1 or 24 items especially after he sees the selection and prices. This is further proof that once baggy clothes made the man, now the man fits the style with age appropriate attire. Spin on that for a bit.

Indie Rock is a subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. It reminds me of songs by The White Stripes, Interpol and The Strokes.

I recently discovered this brand of clothing called California Cowboy. The mission of the company is to create outerwear for people who love the outdoors especially those who enjoy high elevations such as hiking or hitting the beach. Their High Water style shirts are amazing. Here is why. The quality of these shirts is superior, the prints are impressive and the functionality is perfect.

Each shirt comes with a place for everything you’ll need at the beach, a concert and all outdoor activities. Each shirt is designed with a locker loop (for keys), conversation cards, sunglass slot, a bottle opener, bottle pocket and koozie.

What impresses me the most is the quality of material they use. The inside is lined with soft and breathable cotton terri-cloth. Yes, you can use the lining like a towel. I’ve worn this shirt in the great outdoors and look forward to purchasing their long sleeve shirts in the fall. Every guy needs one before hitting the road. California Cowboy gains extra points for their vast selection of prints. Yeehaw!

Swing Big Band Daddy. Big Band and in particular and its predecessor, Swing, is a style of jazz that developed in the United States during the late 1920s and early 1930s. It became nationally popular by the mid-1930s. The war and casualties of the times moved it into the Big Band era of the 1940s. This pair of Oxford shoes by Undandy are called an American in Paris. Talk about a FrancoAmerican revolution.

Dead Heads need no introduction or explanation. They simply are, have been and always will be. I recently discovered Sanük based out of California. It all started with founder Jeff Kelley in 1997 on the principal of making people smile and have fun. Their footwear accomplishes this.

Made from hemp, I am a fan of the vibe and the soft-top foam. They keep your feet wrapped inside with sustainable hemp blend uppers, woven blanket lining and your heels breathe above recycled EVA foam. Comfortable with a cap C.

The Grateful Dead was formed in 1965 in Palo Alto, California.

He’s just a Broadway baby… It’s okay! It’s okay. He knows what he likes and what he doesn’t like. While you have to sit through all his diatribes about who was better in Rent, Les Miserables, Little Shop, etc., now you can just toss a shirt at him and hopefully he’ll get the hint to “SSShhhhhh! The lights are dimming!” For the guy who loves Broadway musicals and you forgot to pick up a souvenir shirt, just click on the Broadway Store below and get shopping.

Tip: Some but not all theaters will let you in to shop if you forgot to make a purchase on the day of your show. That is, if you ask their security guards politely.

Hey! If they are good enough for the Dallas Cobwboy Cheerleaders, they’re certainly good enough for your boyfriend!.  Just ask self-titled gold chain cowboy, Parker McCollum.  Lucchese western boots have been around since 1883. This is almost, but not quite as the song, “Home on the Range”.  That was written circa 1871.

This brand’s been a storied name in Western boots for as long as a country road, worn by U.S. presidents and countless celebrities alike. Though Lucchese makes some of their more affordable boots internationally, their most coveted styles are handmade by artisans in Texas. You can expect full-grain leather cowhides as well as exotic leathers, top-notch welted construction and details made for show and the 2-step more than workin’ the land.

Symphony in The Park. Most parks including Central Park in NYC offer free concert series throughout the summer. If your gent is more a fan of timpani, strings and fife, get him a tie from Seigo Neckwear online or at their Upper East Side Location. He’ll be happy to listen to listen to his favorite composers under the stars and keeping his behavior in check. No head banging or mosh pit on this evening. Well, perhaps not until you get home.

A Caftan? Really? Yup!

When was the last time you let it all hang out while still covered up? The caftan is back by popular demand and Son of León is in the forefront of capturing the style. For those who prefer their music on vinyl, this is the must have attire to show off your collection at your next pool party. Make sure to keep your eclectic collection and moon rock needle safe in the distance and face the speakers towards your group. Trust me when I say that your guests will certainly remember your music library and entrance into the party.
