M*A*C -easily one of my most favorite brands- releases celeb and fashion collabs with the greatest of frequency. Hello Kitty, Miss Piggy, Gareth Pugh, Heatherette and Daphne Guinness are just a few names that pop into our minds. M*A*C’s Iris Apfel collection, which is “inspired by a rare bird who has always been ahead of her time,” is not for the faint of heart nor for the fearer of color!
The Apfel collection is vivid and vivacious, like the New York businesswoman and fashion icon it was named for and who helped create it.
Here’s how to wear some of our faves in this limited edition range.
I’ll admit it. I’m a fair-skinned girl. My uniform is black-lined eyes, lash extensions (long, voluminous and curled, like Kim Kardashian, but classier!) and pale pink or golden glossed lips. I don’t “do” bright, matte lipstick. Then, these items crossed my desk and I got the idea to try a super bold hue (Morange Amplified Creme Lipstick in the Apfel collection) paired with completely naked skin, unlined eyes and my nerdy black “sexy librarian” glasses. The result? Instant sex appeal. Try it!
Beauty Powder in Too Chic can do one of three things for you: add a sheen-like finish to your foundation, add a kiss of shimmery peach blush or act as a highlighter for brows and cheekbones. Bonus points: it’s soft enough to wear with Morange, which sort of screams “I work alone!”
Howzat Eye Shadow is a sparkly charcoal which, like Apfel herself, never, ever goes out of style. Add it to your smoky eye product repertoire and it’ll work with whatever products or brands you already use for the smoke out.
Lastly, don’t wait for summer to wear Nail Lacquer in Toco Toucan. It’s an attention-seeking magenta, similar to a Balenciaga motorcycle bag I own from ’05. Top toes with this shade all winter long and feel your spirits lift. Save some for spring at the first sign of sandal season, too.
All products available at M*A*C counters and MACCosmetics.com. Run, don’t walk. It’s limited edition and should fly off shelves.
