Metallic lipsticks are the perfect way to rock the richly pigmented, high dimension pout trend. Chrome-finished lips have more depth than velvet matte lips and aren’t quite as drying or as perfectly precise. Adding a little chrome-like shimmer to your pucker is always a good thing. Indie brand Cryptic Cosmetics, which entered the beauty industry last year with its mega matte and insanely comfortable wear Lip Veils, is back with the Dessert Kisses Metallic Matte Lip Veils. Cornflake Gurl is a sparkly pink, while Banshee is a pinky mauve. The set is rounded out by Tragic Kingdom, a deeper mauve.
They all smell like a bakery on Sunday morning, thanks to the vanilla cupcake scent. But they paint your pout with the loveliest shimmer and add a high impact, foil finish. The Metallic Lip Veils also dry down beautifully, wearing light without wearing off, all the while removing easily with a towelette. The Veils feel like a matte eyeshadow on your lips, without the caked-on feeling that is often a byproduct of mattes.
You can layer these beauties over matte lipsticks or wear them alone. It’s totally your choice. My tip is to use the tip to trace the perimeter of your lips and then fill in the surface with the Lip Veil. Allow the formula set after applying. Don’t rub lips together or blot. Just be patient and let the product dry down for about a minute, so that the color can settle. Personally, this is the best metallic formula I’ve ever used, thanks to the powdery, lightweight feel. I layered Cornflake Gurl and Tragic Kingdom for a custom lip look one night. Try it!
P.S.: Who gets the references of the shade names? Hint: It’s all rock divas.
