Not every makeup trend projected from the runway –rather, the minds of the makeup artists– is translatable or even desired by the everyday woman.
Just like fashion, some of the looks to emerge are spectacular visuals and truly artistic in nature, but not appropriate to wear to a meeting with, say, a potential client. It’s the classic, elegant makeup looks with a modern twist that really gain momentum and appeal to the masses..
I’ve heard the word on the street. I’ve seen the looks first hand. And I’m aware of what makeup lines are releasing, so let me fill you in on a few of my favorite looks I think you should try straight from the runways this spring, and some wonderful products you can use to help you along the way.
The Gilded Eye: Usually, it’s the wealthy who have everything coated in gold. Lucky for us, we can all celebrate with a gilded eye. Gold is generally a flattering color for everyone, so this is a great trend to have some fun with. Bling it up while still not causing a traffic accident. Urban Decay’s Moondust Eye Shadow in Stargazer is incredibly beautiful! It’s like a brick of gold with just enough sparkle, and is insanely pigmented.
Orange Lips: The reason why I love and focus on lips so much, as opposed to an endless combination of eye shadow look, is because everyone can find tons of options to instantly make them look prettier and with little to no effort. Different textures also match different moods and make statements. Orange and tangerine shades are flooding the runways, so for my product pick, check out from Nars Timanfaya. This satin lip pencil drenches your lips with rich pigments as well as moisture. One tiny swipe and you will be amazed.
Ethereal White Eye Shadow: If angels existed (and maybe they do!), we have to wonder: What kind of makeup would they wear? Probably a kind of ethereal look with a shimmering pearly cream eye shadow, right? When dealing with a cream shadow, you need to make sure you are using one that has some serious staying power. No creases in your eyelids! A perfect product I recommend is from Laura Mercier Metallic Creme Eye Colour in Golden Mist. This stunning product is multi use. Eye shadow, shadow base, cheekbone highlighter, under brows highlighter, Cupid’s bow highlighter – you name it! But on a super elegant and angelic occasion, just take the tiniest amount –and I mean the tiniest– and blend onto your lid with your finger. Add more until you have your desired angelic glowing lid. op it off with only mascara — no eyeliner. Apply to areas suggested above for further glow.
Naked/Natural Skin Finish: The serious “No makeup” makeup look means no concealer, no nothing. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Creme Compact Broad Spectrum SPF 20 Sunscreen is a fantastic option, especially for everyday use. There are many, many things I love about this product. It has SPF, is a Tinted Moisturizer in a cream compact form and it’s very sheer with the ability to increase coverage. It comes with a really great sponge to use, which I suggest you clean weekly, and you will look fresh and radiant in no time flat. There is a great range of colors to choose from as well. Remember, your actual color may look a little darker in the compact than you would think. Don’t be alarmed, they are still incredibly sheer but buildable.
Eyeliner: Its eyeliner for days on the runways, and now you can have eyeliner forever with Urban Decay’s Naked 24/7 Glide On Double Ended Eye Pencils. These double-ended eyeliners come in eight earth-toned colors that last all day. They were created to accompany all of the neutrality in their counterparts — the widely phenomenal Naked Palettes. It really was love at first sight for me, and my goal is to have all four in my kit at all times. Enjoy!
