Best Bets: September 2008

Festive fall is right around the corner and it’s the keyest of key seasons for beauty. This month’s Best Bets revolves around the first wave of fall’s best beauty products.

Heavy Metal
Heavy metal makes a statement and we’re not referring to the music genre, either. This fall, shimmery metallic eye shadows ruled the runways. You can translate the look to your own personal “realway” with Bobbi Brown’s Metallic Eye Shadows. Glowy shimmer + rich pigment = fab color payoff and multi-dimensional peepers.

DuWop gets in on the metalicious eye-shadow fun with Crush, a trio of fierce jewel-toned colors. The velvety red shade is divine when blended with the gleaming gold. Recommended for nighttime wear only! The company got its start with luscious Lip Venom but it also pumps up the volume with its Italian-formula Lash Venom which thickens even the sparsest lashes.

Lancome will transport you to India with its Maharani Jewels collection, which pays homage to the country’s color, culture and the traditional jewels that hang from the necks of Indian princesses, or Maharanis. Retain your hard-earned Indian summer glow with Poudre Elephant Teint, a pink-gold bronzer embossed with an elephant, a revered icon in India. Also in the collection are a trio of Juicy Tubes which work with light and dark skin tones: the perky pink Autumn Jasmine and the sheer red ripeness of Guava Enchantment are our faves.

In this down economy, multi-tasking products are a must. Borghese Lumina Concealer firms as it makes pesky imperfections disappear, while Trish McEvoy Treatment Foundation is a creamy, full coverage foundation enriched with SPF 15. It’s weightless and evens tone while protecting from sun damage.

High Lows
High-low collaborations are “the new black” in fashion. The same rule applies in the beauty world,. Designer Tracey Reese has done another collection of nail polishes for Sally Hansen. Your mani won’t chip for days with Raven’s Wing, Alchemy, Stormy Blue and The Good Earth, all of which make for edgy yet femme fingers in dark, gothic hues. Available at drugstores everywhere.
