January is always a good time to reflect on the year that’s passed and anticipate the year ahead. But when the weather outside is frightful and our wallets are empty from holiday shopping, we end up putting ourselves second and making ‘feeling beautiful’ last on our list of New Year’s resolutions. But feeling and looking beautiful can be surprisingly easy, inexpensive and good for both you and the environment.

1. Natural skin care
There’s no shortage of eco-friendly and organic beauty products on the market and thanks to companies like Toms of Maine, finding highly effective, natural and sustainable products is totally possible. And you’d be surprised just how many beauty products you have right at home in your pantry. Spread that coconut oil for silky smooth, moisturized hands and blend up a yogurt and avocado mask for that youthful glow before heading out to your date night.

2. Eat Well and Exercise
When you exercise and eat natural, unprocessed food, you instantly feel more beautiful. You can practically hear your body thanking you as you opt for the steps instead of the elevator at work or reach for the fruit platter instead of the cookies. Create a home gym using a kitchen chair, an app on your phone and some soup cans and take the time to make yourself satisfying meals consisting of real food. Before you know it, you’ll shine as bright as Times Square on New Years Eve.

3. Repurpose
Ok, so it might be kind of gross to use the same tube of mascara you had in High School but you’d be surprised how many things you already own that can make you the belle of the ball without over consumption. Create a new signature hairstyle, bring back an old favorite trend or layer all of your fabulous jewelry. Or why not turn your attention to creating a beautiful home environment? Finally organize your desk and closet, bring on the Feng Shui and see your apartment come to life just by adding a throw pillow and moving around some furniture. Surf the net or browse through Pinterest for inspiration on how to repurpose old and outdated furniture and clothing. You’ll find that being green actually IS easy.

4. Feel beautiful on the inside
We all know that it’s the beauty on the inside that counts. Give your soul a makeover and you’ll instantly improve your outside reflection. Acts of kindness can be the best age-defyers. Volunteer at a soup kitchen, walk some rescue dogs, or simply reach out to a friend who might be especially lonely during the holidays. A beautiful soul will radiate straight through 2015.

Wishing everyone a very happy, healthy and BEAUTIFUL new year!
