Hands down, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is my favorite new television show. So when lead actress Rachel Brosnahan won for Best Actress, I kvelled. And her hair? Loved it! Credit goes to Lenor Greyl hair products and hair stylist Ted Gibson. The elegant updo showed off her beautiful complexion and gorgeous one shoulder gown by Vionnet.
I knew you’d want to know how to recreate this elegant chignon for yourself, so I got the inside scoop from Ted Gibson himself. He says…..
“Rachel plays a fifties housewife on television, so I wanted to make sure I stayed away from that. For me, it’s about decades; I showed Rachel a few inspiration pictures and we came up with the idea of a sixties-inspired chignon. In that decade, there was a lot of liberation—as there is with the movement that’s happening right now. I wanted to create something timeless and classic, yet still with a modern twist to it.”
“First, I gave her a blowout. For heat protection, I sprayed Leonor Greyl Condition Naturelle at the scalp and throughout the mid-length of her hair. I then applied Leonor Greyl Mousse au Lotus Volumatrice from mid-length to the ends of her hair. During the blowout, I used a nylon and boar bristle brush. The nylon detangles and the boar bristle smooths.”
“Next, I separated hair into one-inch sections and used my flat iron to create a bevel, not a curl. I then used a bungee to put a ponytail at the top of the head. The position keeps the style youthful, classic, and super sexy at the same time. To reduce flyaways, I applied Leonor Greyl Baume Bois de Rose.”
“I back-brushed Rachel’s hair and then twisted it into a chignon. After securing the style with French bobby pins and French hair pins, I finished everything with a misting of Leonor Greyl Laque Souple spray. For a custom finish, stylist Sarah Slutsky made rosettes from the same fabric as Rachel’s dress and I put them into the chignon.”
