Touring is a dirty but fun business for girls in rock ‘n’ roll bands. Letters From the Fire singer Alexa Kabazie opened her touring makeup bag for Beauty New NYC, revealing how she has solved the conundrum of what to bring (and not to bring) when hitting the road and space is at a premium. Kabazie actually doesn’t care about saving space; she admitted to pretty much bringing everything on the road with her because she likes options and choices!
You can use this as a guide and for inspo when packing a travel makeup bag, depending on your destination. Or you can enjoy what is tantamount to makeup porn by getting this peek into her makeup bag.
Foundation: “I have really sensitive skin, so I need a foundation that’s gentle enough to avoid causing irritation or breakouts, yet tough enough to last all night long. My favorite for touring is Estee Lauder Double Wear.” Even if you never step foot on a stage, gentle but long-lasting makeup is a common makeup goal.
Setting Spray: “A good setting spray keeps my makeup on my face and off my hands/towels/the shirts of everyone I hug. It also keeps my makeup looking natural instead of cakey. My favorite setting spray is Urban Decay’s De-Slick. It keeps my makeup in place even after sweating through an entire set!” If you are headed to a warm climate or have oily skin and are generally worried about makeup migration, then you need to grab a bottle of this stuff.
Liquid Lipstick: “One of my favorite parts of performing on stage is getting to experiment with my makeup, so it’s not rare to find me rocking bold, unconventional lip colors. Whatever the color, it’s super important that it stays put so I don’t end up with lipstick all over my face after a show! I stick with liquid lipsticks from brands like Kylie Cosmetics, Makeup Monsters, and Kat Von D Beauty so I can be sure that my lipstick will look as good after the show as it did before it started.” Again, you needn’t be traveling from venue to venue to desire an immovable lipstick!
Bold Eyeshadow: “Along with bold lips, I love rocking a bold eye look! Whether it’s a bright color to match my lipstick or a dramatic black smoky eye, I need eyeshadows that are super pigmented yet easily blendable. My go-to brands for eyeshadow palettes are Kat Von D, Violet Voss, and Urban Decay, and my favorite eyeshadow singles are from MAC and Colourpop.” Blendable but pigmented shadows are essential for nights out.
Contour & Highlight: “Stage lights can really wash me out, so it’s important that I add some definition to my face. I love the colors and blendability of the contour palettes from both Kat Von D Beauty and Wet N Wild. After contouring, I highlight my face. I want to glow on stage! My favorite highlighters are from Anastasia Beverly Hills, Jeffree Star Cosmetics, and Chaos Makeup.” If you want some glow in your life, follow her lead!
