Lip Gloss of the Month

Okay, I’m cheating here. Not on my diet or my boyfriend but on the term “lip gloss.” I have two choices for January 2013 –I’m the beauty editor and I can do what I want, and it’s not like any of you lip product addicts are going to complain about more suggestions about what to swipe on your smacker- and one isn’t a gloss. So technically, we’re talking Lip Products of the Month. It’s semantics, really. Don’t waste your time with that, though. Just indulge. I recommend it. Highly.

Since it’s winter, the season during which lips are usually at their driest, you need something that moisturizes and hydrates and doesn’t encourage chapping. Your first thought was a Vitamin E-enriched gloss, right? Well, with the chilly wind blowing your hair around, you don’t want your strands adhering to your lips and getting all sorts of gloppy and goopy.

So here’s what I suggest.

Go with a moisturizing matte stain in a soft, almost coral, almost red shade in the form of Stila’s Lip & Cheek Stain in Passion Fruit Crush. It’s not drying at all, and it smells fruitalicious. Oh, and yes, the color lasts. I won’t give you the “it stays put through lunch and several caffeinated Starbucks drinks” line o’ nonsense, since your lips never look amazing after you’ve noshed on a salad or wolfed down a grilled cheese! Lip products are meant to be reapplied; deal with it! Plus, a fresh coat always looks sexy. Passion Fruit Crush stains lips and when you reapply and build color throughout the day, the result is faboo.

Stila Lip Glazes are part of my holy trinity of glosses, which is completed by MAC Lustreglass and Dazzleglass (all shades) and Sara Happ The Lip Slip One Luxe Balm.

Re: Stila, the click pen technology ensures flawless application and you don’t waste precious product. For January, I think that the soft, hushed pink of Grapefruit is as pretty as it gets. It offsets all that blinding white snow that surrounds you.

It tastes yummy, the shade is nearly sheer and the shine is the highest of wattage. Plus, you can slick it over Passion Fruit Crush and have the best of both lippy worlds.
