Makeup Best Bets for Summer

Best Highlighters

You want to glow all summer long. Not from sweat. Not from the sun. But from products! You can fake it til you make it and glow safely. I have found three “must own” highlighters that will give you that dewy glow through the warm weather season.

Glossier! OMGlossier! The brand just launched a new duo of Haloscope highlighters in Quartz (for that hard-to-fake pink effect) and Topaz (for a golden and bronzed glow).

The outer core features crystal extracts, while the inner core is mega moisturizing.

Just glide the stick across the parts of your face where you desire a little sheen. No glitter. All glow.

Wander Beauty, launched by model Lindsay Ellingson a year ago, has the most amazing, tuck-in-your back-pocket highlighters. The Catch the Light Highlighters come packaged in slim, gold cases and are cream-to-powder illuminators. Dab directly on your face and blend to brighten with pearlescence. You can swipe it over bare skin or apply atop foundation. I’ve been using Sun, a golden pearl, and Star, a champagne-y pink, on my inner corners of my eyes, under my brows, and on my Cupid’s bow.

Best Summer Lip Essentials

Lip oils are a thing in 2016 and I am glad that they are. Your pout will be, too, since they are light, moisturizing, offer a wash of color, and don’t cling to lips like a gloss, all the while offering some sheen. The gold standard in these lippies is Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil. It isn’t heavy, since “I want several, sticky layers of gunk adhering to my lips like latex on super humid summer days,” said no one ever. I love the almost clear Honey and I get that “I ate frozen fruit” or “I kissed a boy and I liked it” tinted lips from Raspberry. These lippies are shiny sans sticky, and I appreciate that during miserably hot months.

The juicy formula is legit. They smell and taste yummy, too. But the best quality? The thick applicator!

Skin needs to be babied in summer, especially if you are doing outdoor stuff. That includes lips. I have been piling on Waxelene, the petroleum jelly alternative, on my lips during the day and before bed to keep them hydrated and soothed.

Best Summer Glow

Glow, baby, glow. If you want your decolletage or your neck or your extremities to glow while rocking shorts, dresses, and minis, you need to get the Palmer’s Coconut Body Oil. Your skin will shimmer and shine, in addition to smelling amazing while being moisturized to the max. It’s like summer body makeup.

Best All In One

If you want to remedy some imperfections or to commit to the baked makeup trend, grab Rodial’s Instaglam Compact Deluxe Banana Powder. The yellow tones combat redness and neutralize those annoying and hard-to-hide blue circles under eyes… if that’s all you need and want it to do. It also has more magical powers. The texture is matte, so you can apply over foundation to help set your look. It can also absorb oil. If you want to bake, then you can apply it copiously and all over your face after foundation and/or concealer, as the heat of your face will allow everything to set for 10-15 minutes. Then dust off excess. You’ll be left with a flawless canvas.

Best Sweatproof Liquid Liner

True Isaac Mizrahi Liquid Liners are lightweight and water-resistant. I tried ’em and they were sweatproof for summer. You can have that cat eye flick and be done with your eye makeup for the day. Since it’s summer, ditch the standard black and rock the sagey Peridot or the royal Aubergine.
