Like most Gen Z-ers I’ve grown up with the charismatic and down-to-earth, Selena Gomez. From her appearances on some of my favorite shows of my youth to loading up her songs onto my MP3 player, I’m a massive fan. Her way of finding the positives, always smiling, and being besties with Dr. Swift – I’m a huge fangirl. So when I got the opportunity to play with her makeup line, Rare Beauty, I couldn’t say no! This fresh and charming brand has become a fan favorite amongst makeup lovers and novices alike. The shades and products are named after positive affirmations like love, hope, humble, fun, and talented. Meaning: each time you go to touch up your lipstick or blush, you’ll be reminded of the star you are. Rare Beauty is also dedicated to social good with their Rare Impact Fund, which donates to mental health resources and educates to bring awareness about mental health. You’ll look good while doing good with Rare Beauty!
Soft Pinch Liquid Blush
The first product I was most excited to play with was the Soft Pinch Liquid Blush. I never was a blush person, oftentimes seeing that blush was too pink for my tan complexion. Fortunately, Rare Beauty has a wide range of colors for all skin tones (in all their products). I picked “Love,” a terracotta color for my blush color. Only a little is needed and I used my fingertips to dab a few dots onto my cheeks, blending out with a brush. I was left with a stunning color on my cheeks and I couldn’t help but smile! It made me look so healthy, happy, and hopeful. All things I believe Selena was going for in developing this blush. A 10/10.
Stay Vulnerable Melting Blush
If you’re more of a natural flush fan, my suggestion is the Stay Vulnerable Melting Blush. This remarkable formula is fool-proof, leaving you with that just-ran-into-my-crush blush. A second skin finish, this color radiates from within you. I wore the Nearly Apricot color. The lotus, gardenia, and white water lily in the product that leaves my cheeks soft and glowing. I look like myself just more enhanced! A perfect pick for the person who wants a barely there kiss of color that is buildable.
Always An Optimist Pore Diffusing Primer
I’ve gotten ahead of myself… there are some base products from Rare Beauty that create a lovely foundation for your blushes. Always An Optimist Pore Diffusing Primer is a gel primer that smoothes over any fine lines and pores to extend the life of your makeup. I love the texture, it is pillowy and bouncy as I apply it to my skin. I immediately see the difference, my skin is blurred and refreshed. Thanks to the Hyaluronic acid, Green tea extract, and Vitamin E, I’ll be taking care of my skin while wearing makeup. This is fitting for any makeup lover in your life with oily to normal skin. I even wore it without any makeup for a fresh and natural look when mornings get too busy. I’m in love.
Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation
When I’m feeling in the mood for a flawless complexion, I reach for my Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation. With a total of 48 shades, there is something for everyone. The serum-like formula makes it easy to use very little and blends out for a skin-like finish. I always look like me after, since this formula doesn’t change colors like some others on the market. It’s cruelty-free and vegan (all of the brand is, actually), so I know I can use this knowing none of my fluffy friends were harmed. My skin can breathe and live without feeling weighed down with Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation.
Rare Beauty Discovery Eyeshadow Palette – True to Myself
Eyeshadow is such a fun part of makeup. Your inner artist gets to come out and play in color. Rare Beauty Discovery Eyeshadow Palette in True to Myself allowed me to do so. The deep and rich colors lean towards a warm color palette. My favs to use are Accepting, a glittering rose to bronze shadow. It shifts in the light, bringing me so much joy as I get creative with my eye look. I dab a bit of Positive in my inner corner and brow bone (a metallic pink champagne) and it makes my brown eyes POP. I can’t get enough of this soft and buttery texture, I am ready to order the sister palette called (understandably) Came to Play.
Lip Soufflé Matte Lip Cream
To finish off my face I happily apply my Lip Soufflé Matte Lip Cream in Thrilling, which is a true chocolate brown. Perfect for giving a mod look and improving the appearance of my teeth, making them dazzling white. The texture of this product is nearly undetectable on the lips. Hydrating yet matte, best of both worlds for the lippie lover. I only apply once and go on about my day. No need for touch-ups or lipstick-on teeth mishaps with this little tube. I’ll be wearing it all year long and adding a few more to my chart this holiday season!
Rare Beauty is a brand that is only going up, up, up. I can’t wait to see what else they come up with in 2023, and to report back to you what’s good!
