We recently followed the throngs of New York City visitors into the clamorous, cavernous and family friendly Hard Rock Café in Times Square. The experience can be quite overwhelming just by the sheer size of the eatery and the topsy-turvy but efficient system they have implemented to get diners in, happily fed and out. Here is what we discovered.
For burger enthusiasts, their summer creation is worth enduring the elbow-to-elbow huddled masses, guitar riffs and pandemonium. The Hard Rock Cafe’s Goose Island Tropical Bacon Burger consists of a half-pound Certified Angus Beef® patty brushed with Goose Island IPA glaze and topped with chili spiced bacon, grilled pineapple, mango salsa, chipotle purée, arugula and Cheddar. It comes with Hard Rock’s seasoned fries and a side of house-made Goose Island IPA barbecue sauce. The outcome is a very spicy yet sweet burger. My gauge of heat on a scale of 1 to 10 places this combination solidly around an 8.
Warning: if you are not fond of the chili pepper, save your taste buds and consider other menu options. For those who like it picante, this is our recommendation for you. The mango salsa and grilled pineapple are the perfect juxtaposition to the chili-spiced bacon. Enjoy a Goose Island IPA or two. Overall, it’s worth a goose and a gander until August 31.
Hints: For those who shy away from crowds, avoid pre-theatre dining, rush after 8:30 pm and shun weekends. Start with the Balsamic Tomato Bruschetta – a hefty portion of toasted artisan bread topped with herb cream cheese and marinated Roma tomatoes and fresh basil, served with a drizzle of basil oil and shaved Parmesan. Delicious!
