A New Twist on Mother’s Day

If you’re buying spa treatments and oven mitts for mom on Mother’s Day, BN’s got you covered with some fresh ideas on what to do with your mamma on her special day.

For the Artsy Mom
On Saturday May 8th head to Crafts in Chelsea to snag some unique clothing, beautiful accessories and jewelry, bath and beauty products, stationery, and housewares, all of it made in and around New York City by artisans who have shops on Etsy.com. The Craft fair will be held at P.S. 11, where you’ll also find a gently-used toy- and book- sale and a bake sale courtesy of the PTA. P.S. 11 Chelsea, 21st St. bet. 8th & 9th Aves

All weekend long, you can visit the Affordable Art Fair in the Flatiron District. Full equipped with works from emerging young talent and established artists, all works are priced from just $100 up to $10,000. The fair features works from the international array of over 70 established and emerging galleries. 7 W New York, 7 West 34th St, near 5th Ave.

For the Food Lovin’ Mom
If you get your love of all things chocolate from your mamma, then treat her to the Mother’s Day Chocolate Walking Tour where you’ll visit some of the city’s best chocolate shops including Jacques Torres Chocolate, Marie Belle Fine Chocolate and Kees and Vosges. At each shop you’ll indulge in sample tastings of truffles while simultaneously burning off calories because of all of that walking you’ll be doing (or not…). Visit http://www.WalkinNY.com to reserve tickets.

If you’re looking to impress mom with a foodie dinner, then head to The Harrison in Tribeca where chef Amy Freitag polled her staff about their mothers’ favorite foods for inspiration for her Mother’s Day menu. The result: a three-course prix-fixe menu that includes a beet salad so mom can be sure you get your vegetables and of course meatballs with “Sunday sauce”. The Harrison, 355 Greenwich St., 212.274.9310

For the Outdoorsy Mom
On Saturday or Sunday, you can schlep mom to Brooklyn for a bit of nature at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Their May Blooms Garden Tour takes you on an adventure of lilacs, azaleas and Japanese tree peonies to name a few. Just be sure to pop a Zyrtec before heading out, the BBG is big and can wreak havoc on your allergies. 900 Washington Ave., Brooklyn
