Akiko Ogawa Spring 08 collection led me to believe that metallics have yet to die. Akiko’s follow-up to her successful February show proved that the designer not only produces beautiful clothing, but she’s not afraid to take a risk and I mean that in a good way.
Models were styled by Dennis Lane for Bumble and Bumble and Ogawa chose to forgo the loose waves that have dominated the runway and opt for a tight braid, wrapped in grosgrain ribbon and twisted; just add a carefully coiffed hairpiece of bangs and a futuristic ballerina look is created. Futuristic ballerina meets twiggy when make-up artist Noda Norikata for MAKE UP FOR EVER created a soft palette of color with long fake lashes lining only the bottom lash. The hair and make-up worked perfectly for the collection.
The spring collection is well-balanced to create a look that’s edgy, yet feminine. Masculine military styles meet ruffles and jewels. The dresses were absolutely gorgeous with a color palette of snow, eggshell, pearl and ivory. The mostly white collection was interrupted by fluorescents that accompanied the sporty styles sprinkled in for spring. Gorgeous and sure to be gracing the red carpet gowns, closed the show with awe.
Love it-The dresses are amazing and totally wearable. I love the draping and am a fanatic for an asymmetrical neckline, which she creates with delicate perfection.
Leave it-Polyurethane clothing and fluorescents (need I say more?).
