Backstage at the Victorya Hong show hummed along at a steady pace, without the usual frenzy found at many debut shows. Hair and makeup teams from David Evangelista’s new salon at Cornelia Day Resort worked closely with the designer to put together a fresh, clean look. Lead stylist Patrick Ferrara gave models super sleek hair, stick straight with a glossy mirror finish while lead makeup artist Lynsey Laskowski painted a fresh, clean face – cheeks with a pop color, glossy black lashes, and a your-lips-but-better lip color custom mixed for each girl.
Hong’s show was well attended as fashionistas braved the heavy rain to see the designer’s debut show. Several alum from Project Runway were in attendance, including fan favorites Jack Mackenroth and Christian Siriano, along with fabric-spitter Elisa Jiminez and Season 1 winner Jay McCarroll, who caused a minor fervor in the front row.
Hong’s collection itself was eminently wearable – well edited and simple with superb construction and details- perfect for the on the go city woman. None of the fashion theatrics that frequent other shows were evident here; instead an ’80’s influence was clear in the sharp, menswear tailoring, polished separates, standout coats and sleek silk charmeuse dresses. A palette of black, charcoal gray and deep blue was accented with bright pops of chartreuse and a rich, flattering purple. We at BN say – keep your eyes peeled for this designer on the rise, it’s clear that she has no plans to fade into fashion oblivion anytime soon.
