The National Peanut Board is in NYC for a week of promotion, education and a little altruism.
On Tuesday, March 31 and Wednesday, April 1, The Perfectly Powerful Peanut Pop-Up Space is open to the public at the corner of the Roger Smith Hotel on Lexington and 47th Street in Manhattan. Everyone is invited to stop by and learn about the health benefits of this member of the bean, pea and legume family, as well as its global influence on feeding the world, plus pick up some free breakfast and snack treats. The hours are 7:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. and 4 – 7 p.m.
Chef JJ Johnson from The Cecil and Minton’s has created various peanut recipes that you can make for your family at home. Several of his recipes include the Blueberry Peanut Smoothie (above), West African Beef Suya, Rum Soaked Apricot Compote, Grilled Plantains, Ground Peanuts and Sweet and Spicy Peanut Granola (served with Yogurt) are on their website.
It’s all very nutty and not an April Fools’ Day prank.
On Thursday, peanut farmers and other volunteers will be making sandwiches with a local nonprofit organization that feeds hungry people in New York City.
