October is Anti-Bullying Month: Kings of Cause Charity

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (DHHS), 1 out of every 3 American kids are being bullied on a daily basis. 83 percent of girls, and 79 percent of boys report being bullied either in school or online. Students who are bullies as young adults continue the trend of abuse and violence into adulthood. By the age of 30, approximately 40 percent of boys who were identified as bullies in school had been arrested three or more times.

That being said…

The beauty, fashion and sports communities joined forces in response to the growing epidemic of bullying in our society. A fundraising and awareness campaign was launched last week at Erno Laszlo — The Institute in Soho.


Anti-Bully Advocates: Rochelle Weitzner, Sean James and Elana Brynes

The event was hosted by: Kings of Cole with the luxury loungewear’s founder and creative director, Elana Brynes, who revealed her new “Bye Hater” t-shirt design. Rochelle Weitzner, CEO of Erno Laszlo represented the skincare company and spa. Former NFL player, Sean James founder of Be In the Know About Bullying foundation, spoke about his own personal experience with being bullied and introduced the documentary titled, “Stand On the Side of Love”. The film follows NFL champion Brendon Ayanbadejo on his quest to achieve equal rights for the LGBT community from the perspective of a straight man, father and professional athlete. Randy Nathan author of “Bullying in Sports” introduced the speakers.

Thomas Krever, CEO of The Hetrick-Martin Institute, spoke about the importance of this alliance to end this problem in our schools and communities. “It effects everyone, not just the LGBT community or one particular group of people,” said Mr. Krever.

Psychiatrist Dr. Karen Binder-Brynes also spoke about the influx of her practice due to bullying not only by the victims but the bullies as well. “It takes a toll on both sides as they grow older, this is not a one-sided situation.” she said.

“Kings of Cause” announced this will be an annual event until the problem is eradicated.
