Rooftop Cocktails: Cinco de Mayo @ Lovage

Continuing with our rooftop lounge series, we recently visited an obscure gem off the beaten path in midtown near the Hudson River. Lovage (a large, edible, white-flowered plant of the parsley family) is also a hotspot at the pinnacle of 40th street between 8th and 9th Avenues. Wait till you see the view and experience the impressive interior with its mirror brick wall and custom furniture upholstered by Christian Lacroix fabrics. A 360-degree vista show off the Empire State Building, Times Square, the Freedom Tower, the Statue of Liberty, the Hudson River…

A doorman will escort you up to the heights and once the elevator door opens, the room explodes with a collage of designs, pulsating music and a crowd of revelers drinking, mingling and admiring the cityscape. The large space has a wraparound terrace and as long as the weather permits, most patrons gather outside in the shadows of the illuminated skyscrapers. Even when it rains, the interior comes to life with tunes and cocktails.

I took my bro (and official and self-appointed wingman) Ivan to help me investigate and check out the scene over a few cocktails on the rooftop. The staff was attentive and friendly while the patrons from around the world basked in a view that we often take for granted as city dwellers. The crowd that gathers rocks the room. We had so much fun we also got an open invitation to visit a lake house in Minnesota. Proof that city and country come together.

Their cocktail menu includes something to get the party going for everyone. For example: The Kiwi Kolada is made with Grey Goose Vodka, Kiwi, Crème of Coconut and lime. The Spring Sling consists of Spring 44 Mountain Gin, Papaya, Hibiscus and fresh lemon. Go tropical with the Maui 75 and Bombay Sapphire Gin, Chamomile Tea, fresh lemon and Prosecco.

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo this Friday with gusto at Lovage Rooftop Lounge. Specials include: Miller Lite or Modelo beer for $5, Tequila Shots are $8 and the mixologist will whip up special Margaritas for $8. Now that’s reason alone to get up on the roof after work or touring the city.

This is part of a series on rooftop lounges, be sure to read City Pulse often for the latest in the coolest things happening in and around NYC.

¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo!
