“Sparkle” Shines @ 42West: 1 Night Concert Benefit

Sparkle: An All-Star Holiday Concert celebrates the season this Sunday, December 7th at 42 West. The event will be hosted by Scott Nevins from Bravo TV’s, “The People’s Couch”, with musical director, Benjamin Rauhala. This is the third year that a cast from Broadway, TV and film will take to the stage for a benefit concert to support The Actors Fund.

This year’s performers include: Lillias White, Anthony Rapp, Bobby Steggert, Eric Michael Krop, Tony Yazbeck, Erin Quill, Marty Thomas, Erich Bergen, Karen Mason, Perez Hilton, Kelly King, Zack Dobbins and The Glamazons.

We recently caught up with the evening’s producer and host, Scott Nevins (above) for a few more details.

BN: You are one of the busiest hosts and producers in the industry. How did Sparkle come about?

SN: “Sparkle started 5 years ago in Palm Springs as an idea that I had to do a “small holiday concert” to help raise money for a worthy cause. I was lucky that so many of my friends who are stars of Broadway and TV said yes to join us. The night was a huge success; it grew bigger and bigger each year, and so I decided to produce events in NYC and Los Angeles, benefiting The Actors Fund.”

BN: Are there any surprise guests on the 7th?

SN: “Yes! There are always surprises at Sparkle but you have to be there to see them. We don’t unwrap any of our gifts early when I’m in charge of the holiday celebration.”

BN: If people can’t make it to NYC, will the show travel to other venues this holiday season?

SN: “Yes! The Los Angeles version benefits The Actors Fund as well and features a different, but equally star-studded cast with some of the best TV, Broadway and recording artists. The Los Angeles event is on Thursday, Dec 11th at 7:30pm at Rockwell: Table & Stage.”

BN: Will Santa be packing something fabulous for this gathering, or dragging a bag of coal down 42nd Street?

SN: “Always fabulous! I guess I’m the Santa of Sparkle and I can promise that this evening will deliver something to help even the grinchiest of grinch get into the spirit of this holiday season. I mean, look at the list of legends and stars who have been a part of this event in the past: Carol Channing, Lorna Luft, Harvey Fierstein, Florence Henderson, Mitzy Gaynor, Jo Anne Worley, Lillias White, Melba Moore, Andrew Rannells, Erich Bergen, Liz Callaway, just to name a few.”

BN: Considering it benefits The Actors Fund, which 3 famous actors would you select to play Santa’s elves at Macy’s this year?

SN: “That is the strangest yet greatest question I have ever been asked! I guess it would be any of the leading men of Hollywood considering that green tights are involved.”
