Just an hour and a half outside the sparkling lights of Manhattan lie the lush green land of one of the largest growing wine countries in the U.S. If you haven’t had the chance to get to Long Island to visit the wineries, hop on the Jitney and join any of the wine tours offered in the area. I highly recommend Vintage Tours, where the owner, Jo-Ann, will be your best friend by the end of the day. She’ll pick you up and be your tour guide (and designated driver) along with less than 15 others.
Jo-Ann takes the time to know each of her guests and waits to choose the final wineries based on her groups personalities. Being uber-knowledgable about wine (in a non-wine snob kind of way), Jo-Ann can shop talk with you if you’re into that sort of thing or is happy to step back and quietly let you enjoy your day. She grew up in the area, which automatically scores VIP access to the best vineries. The tour also includes a picnic lunch with a wine tasting and she loves to make a stop by local farm stands. There’s a chance that you may never want to go back to the concrete jungle.
