The US launch of STEiNUNN’s spring collection was debuted Tuesday evening with an intimate champagne and hordourve showing at a small space in the Meatpacking District. Void of a runway and models, her line that was casually displayed on mannequins was not the only unique aspect of the collection. After this spring’s sea of pastels and flowy fabrics that have flooded the runways, Iceland native, Steinunn Siguard’s designs were made up of soft grays and charcoals that were inspired her country’s mineral-rich frozen lava that is revealed with the snow melts away with the warm weather.
The concept works for spring because of the light gossamer and silk chiffon fabrics that Steinnun embraced for the season. I loved the tailored trench coat that appeared to a minimalist concept until you noticed the feminine ruffled netting that discreetly peeked out from below. In fact, the whole collection followed suit in that a simple idea was sophisticated and streamlined, but added a special detailing to sex it up. The lines were crisp and blunt and absolutely wearable, especially for all of those New Yorkers whose black is always the new black.
Love it – The simplicity and wearability of this collection is fabulous. Clean lines and beautiful construction, as well.
Leave it – The strappy swimsuit number that was reminiscent of Madonna’s Dick Tracey phase.
