Zero + Maria Cornejo SS 2013

The show notes state “Future primitive” as the inspiration behind the Zero + Maria Cornejo Spring/Summer 2013 collection, and the garments that followed once the curtains closed out a scenic sunset at Pier 57, were just that.

Known for her structural pieces, Maria Cornejo sent out a collection that dresses the Zero woman from “wintry January straight through balmy August” with stunning abstract digital prints and clever use of innovative fabrics.

Pants and corsets were crafted in Neo Scuba, Italian silk charmeuse glided down the runway, stretch leather hugged the models, and the imaginative prints made appearances in tops, skirts, shrugs and shorts.

The designer teamed up with lead hair stylist Martin Cullen of and Shiseido Artistic Director Dick Page to create a stunning beauty look that elevated each style.

Dick Page achieved a simplistic and “imprecise” look by focusing the attention on the model’s eyes (sans mascara), producing a “halo” of pink, black and white light. A messy color-blocked effect of pink and rich purple was applied to the upper lash line, leaving the inner eye area clean and color-free. As a last minute adjustment, Dick decided to “scrub up” the look even more, since the models looked “too perfect” as the setting sun illuminated their faces during the walkthrough.

Products Used:
Face: Luminizing Satin Face Color in Soft Beam Gold (BE206), Tea Rose (RS302) and High Beam White
Eyes: Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio in Tropicalia (YE406), Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Caviar (BK912)
Lips: Lacquer Rough in Nymph (RD305)

Using Phyto products and Amika hair tools and inspired by models-on-the-go, tresses were sleek and futuristic. Long, angular pieces framed the face while a faux-bob completed the look in the back.

First, hair was blown dry using Phytodefrisant and Phyto 7. Next, the stylists created a low ponytail, which was then wrapped in elastic, braided and tucked under for the faux-bob. Multiple pieces in the front were separated and flat ironed straight and the style was finished with Phyto Volume Actif for texture and a small amount of Phyto Lisse to smooth and add shine.

Zero + Maria Cornejo showed a collection that juxtaposed exciting and wearable pieces, elevating what the label does best for another sensational season.
