Self love is a topic women hear about a lot, and its importance can never be over rated. I recently had the opportunity to sit down and chat with body image expert, Sheila Hageman, and the author of the book “Stripping Down”. As we discussed women, self esteem, and sex some very interesting ideas came up.
BN: What are the most common reasons women have low self esteem and body image issues?
SH: Negative relationships from childhood and early adulthood as well as the media.
BN: How can you improve your self esteem?
SH: Read and learn about self esteem, take control of the issue, revisit your past to discover where your ideas originated, talk to other women, learn to accept yourself, and practice gratitude for your body.
BN: What are some exercises to make you feel sexier?
SH: Explore and discover what makes you feel sexy. Accept yourself and others by being less judgmental. Love yourself even for your mistakes and shortcomings. Be open.
BN: How do you get in the mood for sex with your significant other no matter how you are feeling about yourself?
SH: Worry less about pleasing others and just be your authentic self. Self awareness is very empowering. Talk, play, and have fun. Look for opportunities to connect, no matter how big or small. Find and follow the spark that had you two attracted to each other in the first place. Be creative and remember things don’t have to look or be a certain way.
