Sherri Hill’s NYFW Spring 2017 collection was colorful and totally gorgeous, with stunning looks for special occasions. The patterns on some of the dresses were reminiscent of Chinese plates and decorative bowls, and the eveningwear had Swarovski crystal embellishments, intricate beadwork, luxurious fabrics and a variety of figure-flattering silhouettes. Other designers could take a page out of Hill’s design book, and create a collection like this, that has options for women, teenagers and children, so that dressing up is a family affair.

Before the runway show began, celebrities wearing Hill’s designs gathered on the red carpet. Olympic medalist, gymnast, Simone Biles wore a white, intricately beaded dress, with 1920’s inspired fringe on the hem, that was clearly custom made for her 4’9 inch frame. “I feel beautiful,” Biles said. “This is my first Fashion Week. Aly (Raisman) and I flew in at 3:30 this morning.” Biles was still energetic, despite her grueling schedule. She said that she and Raisman were leaving the next day to start training for their tour. Raisman was also stunning in a jewel toned mini dress with a sequined collar and sleeves.
Other celebrities included, Candace Cameron Bure, who beamed as her daughter Natasha Bure took the runway. Sadie Robertson also walked in the show, wearing several of Hill’s short dresses.
When the show began, it was clear that it was going to be different than most. The models were a variety of ages, sizes and ethnicities, but most striking of all was that they smiled. You really have to love Sherri Hill for creating a truly all inclusive and diverse fashion show with models that actually seemed to be having fun. It was the most refreshing show I have ever seen, with children, older women, younger women, children, and so many women of color.
The audience was especially enthusiastic watching the cutest little girls model some of Hill’s tiny creations. There were several coordinating mother and daughter dresses for special occasions. I could have watched this show for another hour, if only the collection lasted that long. I think I know where my niece will get her dress for her Sweet 16 party.
