Emerson Resort & Spa Gets Better Every Time

How much do I love Emerson Resort & Spa? Let me count the ways. This was my second visit to Emerson, and I discovered that my stellar memories of immaculately clean rooms, friendly staff and excellent cuisine were all still true. If anything, this visit exceeded my great memories and added to my sincere appreciation of Emerson’s ability to soothe and relax the mind. It really is a hidden treasure that I am glad I found.

Located in Mt. Tremper, New York, just a two-hour drive from New York City, Emerson is the place to go for instant relaxation when you only have a short time to get away. During my repeat visit, I found that there is so much to explore at this small, intimate resort. My experience this time was different than the last, because I knew the property better and I participated in different activities.

Although the goal was to relax, I also wanted to be active, so I spent time walking around the beautiful grounds near the rushing Esopus River below the resort. The sound of the water was soothing and there are places to sit and read or just listen to nature along the path. I am already thinking of returning in warmer weather to enjoy the outdoors more. This time I also used the fitness center but did not have time for a class, of which there are many to choose from daily. That is for another time.

Of course, my trip would not have been complete without a spa experience. When you visit Emerson, always be sure to book spa treatments. The expert estheticians and masseuses are the best you will find, and always able to customize your experience by asking questions to improve your treatment. I had the Emerson Signature Facial, which is more of an experience than a facial. The treatment includes deep cleansing, steam, masks and extractions, but the facial massage is unparalleled. My face was hydrated and felt so much plumper and firmer after my esthetician used her magic hands on my face, as well as neck, décolleté and shoulders. Emerson is always developing new treatments, and now you can enjoy several CBD-infused spa experiences. For instance, there is a Medi Massage, a 30-minute massage with CBD pain relief from CBD Clinic, added to target sore muscles.

In addition to relaxation, Emerson is also fun, as I discovered when I participated in Trivia Night, a weekly event organized in the bar. It was a humbling experience, but still a lot of fun to try and answer questions on various topics that I realized I knew nothing about. I did not win a prize, but enjoyed the evening. It was something for the whole family, and although children were not permitted to sit at the bar, they were welcome to sit at a table to play the game. Other family activities include the world’s largest kaleidoscope and a show that you can enjoy right on the property next door. There is also a General Store and other local items to browse the day away.

Last, but certainly not least, the food at Emerson is outstanding. Any meal that you have is well prepared and flavorful without being over seasoned. I ate dinner at the Woodnotes Grille this time, and had the Olive Oil Shrimp appetizer, and the Beaverkill Trout which was quite flavorful and presented with rice and grilled vegetables. The trout is from the nearby Beaverkill Trout Hatchery, so it tasted extremely fresh. The shrimp was plump, a touch spicy and had a hint of garlic. For dessert I had apple cake with cream cheese icing that was incredible.

Come to Emerson any time of year, for guaranteed relaxation, fun, good food and great scenery that will leave you refreshed and planning your next visit. I am hooked on this resort and understand why it’s the best-kept secret in the Catskills.
