The Mark Hotel on the Upper East Side is known for its beautifully appointed Art Deco accommodations and impeccable service, but you may not be aware of the fitness goodies the hotel offers its guests. The Mark’s in-house personal trainer, Dan Flores, has created a new spring and summer health and well-being program tailored especially to meet the needs of its international clientele. The Mark Hotel’s entrance
Dan has developed five workouts:
• Yoga Fit
• KickBox Conditioning
• Total Body Strength
• Flex Stretch Release
• Run Club and outdoor training in Central Park (across the street from the hotel)
I met with Dan to learn more about the program and decided to sample a KickBox Conditioning session. The workout consists of a combination of punches, kicks and calisthenics for sculpting the upper and lower body and improving cardio health. Not only is Dan a highly experienced trainer, he’s a warm and down-to-earth guy, and he put me at ease immediately for our session in the hotel’s modern and immaculately maintained fitness center.
We began by warming up on a stationary bicycle, followed by some pushups, squats and situps. Then we moved on to some basic boxing moves, which were totally new to me as a longtime yogini who rarely works out in a gym. Next, we worked out on some machines to pick up the cardio intensity. A huge benefit of training with Dan at The Mark Hotel is that your workout will not be a cookie-cutter routine. This is the real deal — Dan knows how to customize the session to each client’s individual goals and capabilities, and adapts the workout according to what works best for your fitness level.
The hotel is offering guests a new Mark Health and Fitness Kit. It features a custom yoga mat, an Electro-Stim Lifting Facial Treatment + Oxygen Infusion Blast, plus a 1:1 personal training session with Dan Flores at the hotel’s fitness center, dining coaching post-workout with Dan, and a $100 Food and Beverage credit for The Mark Restaurant by Jean-Georges. Dan has reviewed the restaurant’s menu and identified fitness-friendly foods for guests who would like guidance with healthy food choices.
