This week I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Smita R. Ramanadham, founder of Skin by Smita. She is a double board-certified plastic surgeon. Here are notes from our interview, where I was able to learn a little bit more about plastic surgery and Dr. Smita Ramanadham:
Her background is in general surgery, and while studying, she discovered a passion for the creativity and art of plastic surgery. Dr. Smita Ramanadham enjoys helping people alter their bodies to feel more confident; for example, a woman who had a baby might want to get a tummy tuck or a lift, which is when they would head to Dr. Smita’s office.
When a potential patient comes for a consultation, Dr. Ramanadham focuses on understanding what the patient truly wants. She offers her expertise by viewing their holistic state of health and offers her professional opinions from that perspective. By having a thorough and thoughtful conversation with her patients, they can feel comfortable in making choices for themselves.
Hailing from an Indian background, Dr. Ramanadham comes from a family of doctors, but none of them are plastic surgeons, which requires more time and training than general physicians. As a woman it can be a challenge to balance work and life, but Dr. Ramanadham manages to do it. Many Indian women who are interested in plastic surgery reach out to her for guidance.
Her biggest tip for those of us who don’t want to go under the needle is to develop a good skincare routine, particularly with skincare products that are medical-grade, and to start using them in their twenties and thirties.
