Metro Parent – Dog Man: The Musical!

Children love Dav Pilkey’s Dog Man book series, and can now savor their favorite Pilkey characters in theatrical form, too. Dog Man: The Musical is running for 8 weeks through April 30th at the New World Stages in Midtown, and to quote one 7-year old viewer after seeing the show, “It’s fun and a little bit different than the books. I really liked it!”

Recommended for children in grades 1-5, there’s much for parents to revel in as well. With the head of a dog and the body of a man, crime-busting Dog Man tries to save the city from Flippy the cyborg fish and his Beasty Buildings. And Petey, the world’s most evil cat, clones himself. Dog Man: The Musical appeals to theater-lovers of all ages and underscores the importance of empathy, humor, kindness, and doing good. Full of heart and playfulness, don’t miss this opportunity to see the beloved Dog Man books come to life.

An interesting side tidbit for parents: author and illustrator Dav Pilkey says ADHD and dyslexia have been his life’s superpowers because having ADHD enabled him to create engaging tales and dyslexia helped him choose his words with care. So all kids have their own unique, built-in magic.

This hilariously playful musical adventure is a delightful way for families to spend a spring afternoon in NYC. The show is written by Kevin Del Aguila and Brad Alexander, the creative team from the Emmy-winning PBS series Peg + Cat.
