Nontoxic Anti-Aging: Q & A with The Essentials Skincare Founder, Beth Pestotnik

Everyone wants great looking skin, and Beth Pestotnik is here to help you achieve those goals. Not only did this powerhouse woman found The Essentials Medical Skin Care & Day Spa but she also created The Essentials skin care line. Anti-aging is her forte and she has been in the business for more than 22 years. I recently had the privilege to speak with Pestotnik to learn more about her amazing products, how her business started, and her TOP anti-aging tips.

Please tell us about yourself and how you got to where you are today.
I have a passion for skin care. I founded Skin Essentials Medical Skin Care & Day Spa and created The Essentials clinical skin care line. I started my business in 1999 with a $5000 loan from my parents. I had a vision and the determination to do whatever it took to make my dream a reality, so I worked two other jobs to make ends meet. In order to grow my business, I overcame many challenges. For years I operated completely on my own. I performed all the treatments, and did everything else for the business. Most days I spent ten hours in the treatment room and worked on the accounting/marketing side of the business late into the night, while I washed and folded the laundry from the spa. In 2003, I hired my first employee and a few years later, moved into a beautiful historic building in downtown Littleton, Colorado. This September I will celebrate twenty-three years in this business and having an incredible team of thirteen therapists. I am still dedicated to providing result-driven treatments and products to dramatically improve the health and appearance of our skin.

Can you give our readers some background on The Essentials line?
One of my life goals was to create my own skincare line. After twenty-four years in this industry, one day I finally said to myself, “What are you waiting for? You know this industry and you know the right combination of ingredients for healthy skin!” I wanted to take the guessing out of product selection for the consumer. This industry is flooded with skincare lines, which makes it so confusing for consumers, especially when they see unrealistic marketing ploys like celebrity faces. Some product lines are full of junk, too! I worked with a chemist for more than two years to develop The Essentials line. I wanted to keep it clean and simple but effective, to target and improve the signs of aging. The Essentials line is the perfect choice for anyone seeking an anti-aging routine without toxic ingredients. I am currently developing an acne line, which I am very excited to launch later this year.

What are your favorite products?
I love and use my entire line, but one of my favorite products is the Refresh + Awaken Exfoliating Lactic Cleanser. I use it twice a day and have it by my sink, bath tub, and shower! It keeps my skin so smooth and never leaves it dry or irritated.

The Brighten + Smooth Encapsulated Vitamin C Serum with Hyaluronic Acid is a must for anyone with normal to dry skin, especially for those living in dry climates. Not only does it protect skin from environmental hazards, but it’s like a drink of water for your cells since it instantly hydrates and fills lines. We created this formula so it does not oxidize, which means it has the purest Vitamin C every day. We just received a nomination from WellSpa 360 Readers’ Choice for best new product & best dry skin product. My most recent product launch includes my new favorite treatment product: REVITALIZE Multi-Acid Resurfacing Cream with Mandelic, Lactic & Glycolic Acid. This cream keeps skin bright, smooth, and blemish-free. The combination of these AHA’s are exactly what our skin needs for cell turnover.

You’re very knowledgeable when it comes to anti-aging, and even wrote “Secrets to Looking Younger at Any Age.” What are your anti-aging tips for our readers?
Find a skincare expert, and get on a professional-recommended treatment and home care plan, then review it each season. Exfoliate your skin every 2-4 days and drink at least 64 oz of water every day. Topical Vitamin C, retinol, and SPF should be part of your daily skin care routine. Monthly facials are a must. Do not smoke, choose a mineral makeup, and get 7-8 hours of sleep every night. And of course, eat your fruits and veggies.

Anything else we should know?
