“Luxury in a New York minute” is how Soho located, MiN New York Apothecary & Atelier describes itself. As a New Yorker I must say, I do generally value my precious minutes, but the moment I step inside this treasure chest of European fragrances and grooming products I decide I’d like to stay awhile. The dark wood fixtures and over sized leather couch and chairs give the space the look of a gentleman’s study. I feel as if I am getting a privileged peek into someone’s private collection of rare and highly coveted possessions. In a sense, as I come to learn, I am.
The man behind Min, owner Chad Murawczyk, has worked to create an impressive product assortment including Geo F. Trumper shaving cream, Merkur razors, Mason Pearson brushes and Min’s own line of skin care and men’s hair color. Most captivating to me though, is the selection of hard to find European fragrances. The shop boasts exclusive distributorship for a number of lines including, Miller Harris, Linari, Taylor of Old Bond Street, Frapin and Parfum d’ Empire. For those in search of that sometimes elusive signature scent, look no further. Though I’d highly recommend heading to the shop yourself, these are the fragrances that I’ve been dreaming about since my visit to MiN.
Just launched is Acqua Santa by Linari, this crisp fresh scent that would be equally well worn by a man or a woman. The notes of Sicilian bergamot, coriander, musk and tonka bean come across more clean and subtle than sweet.
1270 by Frapin is at once a beautiful, complex and intoxicating fragrance. The unique formulation uses notes of candied orange, raisin, coffee, prune and white honey. 1270 refers to the year which the Frapin family started producing their first class cognac in the Grande Champagne region of France.
Wazamba by Parfum d’Empire uses notes of Somalian incense, Kenyan myrrh, Ethiopian opoponax, Indian sandalwood and Moroccan cypress to create a scent that is both memorable and timeless.
