Fragrance has always been a traditional Mother’s Day gift, and you can’t go wrong with a time honored classic! Here, we have a sampling of some iconic favorites she’s sure to love.
Launched in 1925, Shalimar by Guerlain created a scandal in France for its frank sensuality and air of mystery. Even free-spirited Parisians, who were fascinated by the Far East, found its oriental notes to be being scandalously daring, racy, and intoxicating. But we can credit the wild and crazy Roaring 20’s era here in the USA for giving it its initial over the top success. Today it remains one of the world’s most favorite fragrances.
Shalimar which is Sanskrit for “temple of love”, was created by perfumer Jacques Guerlain, and inspired by the love of an Indian Emperor Shah Jahan, for his wife Mumtaz Hahal, for whom the Taj Mahal was built. The palace’s magnificent gardens inspired Shalimar’s creation with its opening citrusy notes of lemon and bergamot, while its feminine heart embraces us with jasmine, rose, heliotrope and iris. Its lasting notes, that most of us know so well, keep us going with vanilla, tonka bean, iris and incense.
This Mother’s Day, treat her to a little romantic history by getting her this Shalimar set which contains a 50ml bottle of eau de toilette, 75ml of body lotion and 75ml of shower gel.

When talking of classic scents, the iconic Chanel No. 5, is of course, also at the top of the list. Created in 1921, it’s thought that Coco commissioned Ernest Beaux to create six perfumes for her to choose from, and that bottle No. 5 was her favorite.
Classified as a floral aldehyde, the perfume has top notes of neroli, ylang-ylang, and aldehydes, middle notes of jasmine and mayrose, and long wearing base notes of sandalwood, bourbon vetiver and bourbon vanilla. Andy Warhol elevated its image to Pop Art, and Chanel No. 5 has always been worn by outstanding women such as Marilyn Monroe and Catherine Deneuve. And who’s more outstanding and deserving than Mom?
The set consists of 1.7 oz of eau de toilette, 1.7 oz velvet body cream, and 1.7 ounce bath gel and packed inside a pretty white travel case that has pockets inside.

When it comes to candles, there’s nothing as classic as Diptqyue which was created in 1961 when almost no one thought of using a scented candle as a room accessory. Ahead of their time, Diptqyue has never used a synthetic fragrance in their hand poured candles. Delightful fragrance notes run a wide range and include floral, woodsy, herbal and fruity scents. My personal faves are the fig and gardenia. Can’t decide which fragrance she’d like best? Get a trio of mini candles so she can enjoy three different scents.

Okay, not a fragrance classic, I admit, but indulge me a little here. Who doesn’t get a bit nostalgic about the forever gone subway tokens? I sure miss them, and would switch back from the ugly metro cards any day. Bond No.9 has taken one of our favorite NYC icons and turned it into a set of four adorable soaps. Each 100 gram soap is foil wrapped and the set contains Scent of Peace, Chelsea, Chinatown, and Eau de New York. What an adorable token of your love!
