I often find hair inspiration from award shows and events, and this year’s Tony Awards didn’t disappoint. Since this summer seems to be the summer of weddings, baptisms, and more, I thought Amanda Seyfried’s classic chignon could be my perfect, go-to look.
We turned to celebrity stylist Renato Campora to find out how he did it.
Inspired by the grace and elegance of Grace Kelly, Campora first applied Matrix Biolage Blow-In-Control Shape Memory Cream to Seyfried’s damp hair to add body and conditioning, and then lightly sprayed her hair with Matrix StyleLink Turbo Dryer Blow Dry Spray while her hair was still damp. That helped tame the frizz and expedite the blow-drying process.
After blow-drying the hair until it was about 80% dry, Campora used a round brush to create a loose curl, and then flat ironed the top of her hair to create a sleek look for the chignon.
He brushed all of Seyfried’s hair and applied Matrix StyleLink Super Fixer Strong Hold Gel to the ends to give it texture, allowing for a firm hold.
Then, Campora pulled all of the hair back, fastening it at the base of her neck with a hair band. He applied Matrix StyleLink Texture Builder Messy Finish Spray to the ponytail to add in more texture.
To wrap the hair into a chignon, Campora twisted each section piece by piece to get the perfect dimension of a bun, adding pins to secure the bun in place.
He finished Seyfried’s look with a few sprays of Matrix StyleLink Style Fixer Finishing Hairspray.
