Is fun in the sun taking a toll on your tresses? We know ain’t easy to keep your ‘do divine when summertime elements are abound, so this month’s Fab Four offers some product suggestions to keep your strands smooth, silky, and sensational.

Clarify: Color, cut, product placement. There’s a lot that goes into maintaining a magnificent mane, especially in the summer season. So it’s a good idea to give your ‘do a deep clean at least once a week. The best way to achieve this is to grab hold of a good clarifying shampoo such as Fantastic Sams’ FantasticCleanse™. It helps clear away build-up from styling products, chlorine, hard water and mineral deposits. It’s a high-lather cleansing shampoo solution, formulated with the FantasticComplex™ (an exclusive blend of pro-vitamin, soy protein, and silicone that strengthens and removes all residue from the hair shaft while nourishing the cuticle). It’s great to use before a chemical service, as well as on a weekly basis to keep hair healthy and full of shine. Application is easy cause you know the drill: wet hair, lather, thoroughly rinse, and repeat if necessary. All Fantastic Sams’ products are available at Fantastic Sams salons nationwide. Fortify: One of my favorite pre-makeup primers is Smashbox’s Photo Finish. I love putting this on, especially in the summer, because it makes product applications stay smoothly in place during the hazy, hot, and humid days we face. Being a self-professed styling product gal, I’ve been on the hunt for something similar for my strands. At long last, I found it in Privé’s Leave-In Treatment. We wrote about the wonders of Privé Salons a few months ago and briefly touched on some of the elements in their product line. Now with this latest discovery, it’s time to dig a little deeper. Privé’s Leave-In Treatment is a lightweight, pre-styling solution that helps hair keep “style memory” all day while conditioning it. It does so by filling in any imperfections your tresses may have (such as tiny split ends and cuticles) due to free radicals and air pollutants. When you work the treatment through your tresses, you are creating a base that works as a protective barrier. Ingredients include aloe vera (to condition and detangle) and comfrey, kelp, and honey (which play the role of the primer). A big bonus of this product is that it’s good for every hair type and texture, and of course, application is breeze. After shampooing and/or conditioning, just rub a dime-size amount together in the palms of your hands and place throughout damp strands. Then style and go! Retail price is $19 for an 8.5 oz. bottle. Amplify: Summertime styling, as you know, isn’t always easy. Especially in NYC! When the humidity rises, hair can behave in some seriously bad ways. Two of my biggest issues are frizz and lack of shine. That’s why I was so psyched to stumble upon Schwarzkopf’s Citré Shine™ Shine Miracle™ Anti-Frizz Serum. It’s a high-gloss polishing serum that’s formulated with a custom blend of vitamins, silicones, and a UV protectant. It works great on coarse, dry, or in my case, chemically treated tresses. Ingredients include real fruit extracts (including grapefruit, lime, and mandarin orange) with Citrus Micro-Luminates technology, which together enhance shine while helping shield strands from heat styling damage and environmental elements. It’s the perfect product for fighting frizz and taming split ends. It’s alcohol-free and has a non-greasy formula that makes it a weightless and simple styling solution. It revitalizes and hydrates hair while keeping fly-aways far away. The best part of the product is that it doesn’t produce big build-up, as long as you apply it correctly. That means place no more than a dime-size amount in the palms of your hands and work it throughout your hair. For split ends, it’s suggested that you apply the same amount to your fingertips, and when you work it through your hair steer the concentration toward your ends. Citré Shine™ Shine Miracle™ Anti-Frizz Serum is available at drugstores such as Rite Aid and CVS. Suggested retail prices are $3.99 for the 2 fl. oz. and $5.99 for the 4 fl. oz.

Stylize: Last but not least…what summer wardrobe would be complete without tress tools of amazing hair adornments? We found divine inspiration for your ‘do with Virgins, Saints & Angels. It’s a line of accessories that celebrates goddesses and icons who encourage enlightenment, expression, and creativity. Designed by Cheryl Finnegan, the collection is hand made in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and makes use of indigenous materials such as silver, alpaca, and tumbaga. Other “ingredients” include Swarovski crystals from Austria and hand made medallions from the Vatican. Hair accessories include hair pins, combs, sticks and tiaras that can be worn day or night. They feature images ranging from fairies and mermaids to skulls and crosses. The latest Rock n’ Roll pieces are inspired by Mexico’s Day of the Dead. What’s really cool? Each accessory comes inside a hand-crafted tin box that’s hand stamped with VSA’s heart logo. Trend take-away: Several celebs are devoted to VSA such as Madonna, the Simpson sisters, and the ladies from “Lost,” Evangeline Lilly and Michelle Rodriguez. Prices start at $250. The accessories are available at select retailers nationwide. For more information, log on to www.vsadesigns.com.
